      P220?

I'm finding some similarities on this thread.
I also have a HK USP 45. The 45 caliber is my favorite round by far, and I have the HK, nine 1911's, a Springfield XDs 3.3 and a SIG P227 (double stack) to show it.
I am hoping to land a CZ 97B tomorrow.
After my next DROS for a new gun (CZ SP 01 9mm), guess what is waiting in the wings?
A P220 Equinox. This one has my name on it:

Still looks splotchy from the packing grease. The shop told me I was the first to touch it as they opened it for me (I reminded them somebody in New Jersey touched it first). But due to the 30-day wait on new gun purchases, I won't see it until around August 24. Ugh!
I chose the Equinox for the SRT trigger and the two-tone look. I wasn't sure I liked the look from the pictures, but someone showed me theirs and I was hooked.
I rented and shot a Nitron P220 at the local gun range. It has seen thousands of rounds, and was running dry. It was one of the most pleasant guns I have ever shot, and immediately went on the list of "must haves."
If you compare it to a 1911, well...I'm a 1911 fanatic and think a nicely sorted 1911 will shoot better than the P220. But opinions are very subjective. And clearly, I feel the P220 belongs in the safe, even if it is overshadowed by the row of 1911's next to it.

I've been very happy with the SIG 220s that I have owned. They have always been impressively accurate and boringly reliable.

In the picture below are my two favorites:
        1. the white one is a 220ST that I use to teach and compete with
        2. the blued one is an German alloy framed 220 that I carried on duty...it has been lightly customized by Ned Christiansen

          Sold my 220 and 226.

My hands don't agree with the slide stop/release lever position. I am used to shooting with high grip and my thumb always ends up on top of the lever. So at the end of the magazine instead of having slide lock I have a "click" as the hammer goes home on aN empty chamber. Reason I sold them is because I was getting annoyed with having to think where my thumb was as I was shooting.

However, I never had any reliability issues with the gun. Sigs are great shooters. A steel framed 220 and 226 feel way better in the hand (balance and recoil wise) but both mine (220 and 226) were aluminum framed. Again, outside of my own preference the guns were great.

I would recommend for you to go rent one or meet up with someone local who has one. Shoot it first. I am sure you will like it.

By the way, I shoot my USP45 better than I shot my 220. Not sure why.

64 years newer than the 1911 with the same capacity. Do not want.

The P220 is the best non-1911 pistol that I have shot for the 45acp caliber. I have had Glocks and HK's, they are harder to shoot compared to the p220. Also the recoil of the carry version is less than the full size. I don't know why since logic dictates that the bigger heavier gun should recoil less, but that has been my experience along with some reviews I read online.

I bought my "Made in Germany" Sig P220 brand new back in 1998, It sits in my safe today. The pistol has 100% reliable, accurate and is still fun to shoot. It eats every make of FMJ/HP ammo I have ever fed it and has had no failures with my reloads...

                    .....
                    The same with shooting P226 & P229 both 9mm and .40.
P229 to me shoots more comfortable and little softer maybe because it's more balance?

I think so too. The combination of the balance and the shorter slide may have helped dampen the recoil.

Another variable is the fact that at one time 220s had stamped slides

Love shooting mine, it's definitely one of my most accurate 45's west German made in 1977.

Some prefer the feel of single stack

But in my case I can shoot it better than a 1911 and I don't think my hands could handle a double stack .45 grip.
