    Taurus "Poly Protector"

    Hello to all,

I've noticed in gun shops that the only revolver made with polymer is the Ruger brand which I would like to add to my collection.

In addition the store salesmen stated I can't get the Taurus "Poly Protector" in 38 special. Is it because it's not on the list OR was it considered to be too much plastic and unsafe?

In the future I'd like to add both but admit one revolver at a time.

Find a different FFL to do business with, this one doesn't know what they're talking about.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Thanks for the information. I might just do that in a couple more months.

I want one for my 38 special collection and so if I ever get my hands on one it would be my home defense loaded with +P ammo.

Since you sold yours I take it you didn't like it. What was it that made you sell it???

I am pretty impressed with the Ruger LCR. Xlnt engineering, workmanship, and value.
Personally, I would not buy a Tarus again. People I know, myself, and others I have read about, have had to return them for warrantee work. There is absolutely no comparison between the quality of the two brands.
The S&W Bodyguard is a comparable model that I would look at also.

              Perfectly stated.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

I have 3 Taurus and one is so good that I am willing to bet my life on it. I have a TCP listed on my CCW and carry it regularly.

1 of 3 is so good...? You've just proved my point.
My brother bought 2 Taurus snub nose 38's. They both locked up in under 100 rounds. What if he had just shot 20 rounds and then had to depend on them? They went back for warranty repair and were then sold, without ever firing another shot. There was over a 1000 number difference in serial #'s, so it probably wasn't just a bad batch but a continuing problem.
I bought a 22 revolver. Beautiful gun. Per the seller, it shot fine.
Well, he was correct. It did shoot fine, but it wouldn't extract unless I beat on it with a block of wood. I sent it in for repair. Since I was the 2nd owner, they charged me $50 shipping. They did somewhat fix it. Probably 50% easier to extract, but not really right. I polished the cylinders, which were pretty rough and it now works fine.
So, of the 3 pistols that I have personal knowledge of, they all had problems.
Cheap pistols are ok for fun and sport, but personally I want mine to work correctly EVERY time. I'm glad that your 1 of 3 works correctly, but I'll skip Taurus.

Nope all 3 are good. One is a 22lr revolver and the other is a 1911-9mm. Neither of those I would carry for what some might call obvious reasons. All three of them are 100% reliable.

Nothing wrong with it, it was a fine piece, but i never shot it. I don't really like snubs to begin with since they are too big for my ccw and don't really have much use to me other than that. I sold it to buy a seecamp lws32 for my ccw. In fact i was at the range with a buddy all day today. The seecamp is really fun to shoot and really the only gun i can and will comfortably carry in my pocket.

I have purged myself of all ruger's except for the 10\22. If I'm going to buy a revolver, it's probably going to be a Smith & Wesson or a Colt.

                          mtnman,

I saw it on You Tube and it does look a little bulky and large for a CCW weapon. Regardless I still want one for my collection and intend to begin looking for one towards the end of the calendar year.

Towards then end of the week I take procession of my first Ruger LCP polymer revolver and can't wait to take it out for some cap busting.

Yes it was, i bought a charter arms under cover ultra lite 38 i carried for a while, it was very light and much smaller than the taurus but still too bulky for me in my pocket.
