Bought a SP2022 and HATED IT...

This was a purchase I was looking forward to for a little while, I've always wanted to own a Sig and not have to spend Sig money for it. Long story short, I took it to the range for the first time yesterday. The pistol was accurate, recoil was extremely manageable, and the pistol felt great in my hand. For me, that is where the pros ended, and the cons began. I hate everything about the trigger (i don't like the reset and the single action felt a little soft or mushy to me) and I found that the grip I use keeps the slide stop from engaging on an empty magazine. That plus the fact that the a/c at the range was out and they didn't have the JHP ammo I always get from there, I left the range disappointed, irritated, and sweaty. My first instinct is to sell the gun and move on, but I am wondering if I should keep it and learn to love it...

SO calguns members, do you keep guns you don't enjoy shooting, or do you keep using it until you learn to love it?

I rent and shoot guns before i buy them when possible to help avoid this type of scenario..

That being said, why not give it a few more range trips before making that decision?

I love my SP2022. As with all Sigs, my thumb seems to ride where the slide stop is located, and almost any full size Sig I shoot doesn't lock back after the last round unless I specifically think about keeping my thumb elsewhere. And Sig triggers, well, their DA/SA triggers are something you either get used to or not. Some model triggers from Sig are better than others according to some folks. Doesn't seem to take me long to get used to the standard Sig DA/SA trigger.

Keep it or sell it? Only you can be the judge. There are some guns that I have initially chosen not to sell, and I keep taking them back to the range. Sometimes they seem to perform fine for me, other times continuing problems. There are just some guns that certain folks just don't shoot well, but others absolutely adore. One in my case was a Browning HP: Wanted to love it, but never could. Sold it and moved on.

Ya, I've tried to make myself like guns before just to try them out again and still hate them. I do the same with olives about once a year, nope I still hate olives, Sig's and Glocks.

Many stock triggers are lacking. However there is usually a trigger upgrade kit you can pop in (Sig-Grey Guns, Beretta-Wilson combat, Glock-too many to name, S&W-Apex. CZ-CGW). You also have to like DA/SA actions.

Take out it one more time OP in a better environment and then decide for yourself, you will know by then.

Your grip is a free adjustment. The AC out wasn't the gun's fault. Not having ammo you like isn't the gun's fault.

A blah trigger in a sub $500 gun isn't a hug surprise. But if it felt good in hand and you shot decent groups with it I say give it another try.

I owned one and sold it. My mom traded hers for a Glock 19. It's a pricepoint gun from a brand name. For what it is, it is entirely fine.

Give it a few more tries. You've already shot it, so if you do sell it's not like two range trips reduces the resale or trade value more than one.
Competition is where you find out you're slow, can't see well, are not accurate, have poor gun handling, can't visualize, have equipment that doesn't work and either accept it OR DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I never judge a gun from one afternoon of shooting in an indoor type range. I need to spend some time actually working the gun. Drills involving presentations from a holster, support hand only drills, speed reloads, failure drills, shooting on the move, etc. If after 500-1000 rounds of that I don't care for it or it proves to be unreliable, then I'll get rid of it.

Give it more time. The SP2022 is a great gun and a Sig at non-Sig money. The SA trigger will get better over time (they all do). There is a certain 'sproing' to the trigger that won't go away though. It's a great HD or backup gun if you don't need to sell it. It'll run and will be 100% reliable with FMJ Y& JHP unlike some other guns (G-types).

And if you ever have to use a gun, wouldn't you rather have a $500 2022 taken as evidence or a $2,000 P226 Legion.

Sell it, you'll never grow to love it if you don't even like it now.

                        Get yourself a Sig 😉

Sell it. Hopefully you can get most of your money back.

You sound like me, but with my dislike for glocks. Only difference is I shot a bunch of them, decided I didn't like them, THEN bought one (you would have too for the price). I might shoot it to see if it'll grow on me, but as of right now, I have no intention.

OP, do you like the stock trigger on other SIGs? Or do you just not like SIGs? Agree with others that the A/C and ammo at the range aren't the guns fault. Also, many shooters ride the slide stop/release, and not just on SIGs. Seems to me like you're looking for reasons to hate the piece. Give it some time, shoot it another once or twice at least, then decide.

Not to cherry pick, but I think this argument is ridiculous. My life is worth more than all my guns combined. Isn't yours? If not, why not just use a Hi Point for self-defense if this is your argument.

Then you better run out a buy a $4k Ed Brown. You're worth it.
