    S&W Shield .45 issue?

So I got this a few weeks ago, still haven't shot it, but I am not sure what's going on with it. I have tried several different ammos in it, and it will only take regular fmj ammo? Originally I tried some RIP ammo I had from my full size MP 45, wouldn't even feed into the chamber. So I tried some other hollow points I had, they would feed but the gun wouldn't lock up. So I took it all apart and dropped a round into the barrel, everything seems fine. While it was apart I cleaned and lubed everything. Put it back together, same thing. There's like 1/8" that it won't lockup. Next I tried some regular plinking ammo and it feeds and locks up like normal. I even took my 9 shield apart right next to it and nothing stands out, and it's only been test fired at the factory. Just seems weird it won't seat with any ammo other then regular white box plinking ammo? Any ideas?

Do you have any non-****ty JHP you can test with?

I've tried several different brands all with the same effect.

Only thing it likes is Winchester. Which sucks cause I wanted this for a HD gun, which is how I initially realized it didn't like any of my ammo lol My full size MP 45 would eat ANYTHING!! This one is extremely picky apparently, although it may be cause it's literally brand new and only had one round fired. But you'd still think the action would close and lockup.

Why don't you actually go run at least 200 round of the FMJ it home cycles and then try running some quality JHP ammo after that at the range. Get rid of that RIP crap and get yourself some Federal HST, Winchester Ranger, or Speer Gold Dots and then see what happens. Stop trying to hand cycle at home and go shoot it.

I plan on it, just seems odd that it will only feed and lockup with standard Winchester fmj. My shield in 9 eats anything also. So I'm holding out that it's cause it's new, especially for the price I paid for the damned thing.

Are you by chance manually feeding the first round into the chamber?? I Don't know if this helps, but I have a shield 9mm and it absolutely will not lock up if the round wasn't stripped from the magazine. The extractor just won't grab the case for some reason. And before someone chimes in, I know, I know, you're not supposed to drop the slide on a chambered round anyway.

Tried that, same problem. With it disassembled the cartridge seats as it should in the chamber. But when you try to manually cycle a round into the chamber it will not lockup with anything other then a Winchester fmj round. It's weird, have tried it several times and same outcome. Just gonna try putting some down the pipe and hope it resolves the issue. Wanted this for a nightstand gun, but have no trust in it so far. Time will tell. My 9 shield works like a champ regardless of what I feed it.

Yeah I think that's all you can do at this point. Good luck and remember to come back and report your findings either way!

Shoot the damn thing and stop diagnosing the pistol from hand cycling the rounds..

Why are you even hand cycling rounds at home?
