Which caliber /version shield to get?

Like the title states first what caliber to get a shield in and why?

I need to decide by this weekend. Roster plays no meaning here. I am leaning on the custom shop .45 ported model.

    So what model and why?

9mm without safety. Modern ammo makes for a light shooting little ccw gun.

Of course if you just love 45acp, then go for it. But the gun is a bit bigger.

      9mm for capacity.
      I like no safety.

9mm no saftey for me too and for similar reasons as to what ARDude posted.

I find I have faster and better placed follow up shots with a 9mm. I just stick to what feels right.

        Edit:
Ported guns are fun, but I don't like the gas and flash in front of me for something like a defense gun.

I have the 45 Shield because I love the 45 caliber. The Shied in .40 however is too snappy.

              lack of info...

              What calibers do you have?
              what calibers do you prefer?
How big or small are your hands?
Do you currently own SIMILAR guns that could rule out another?

This thread is like saying: I am buying a pickup, should I get a v6 or a v8?

without any background info you should rephrase your question - it will lead to the same result...

"What is your favorite M&P shield and why, do not factor the roster"

I am not roster exempt, I own 9mm shield and 40sw shield in CA compliant models, love em both. prefer 40 as a caliber, but no question the 9mm is my preferred caliber in the shield.

a Performance Center 9mm Shield would be in my collection if it was a off-the-shelf option in CA.

Just bought a 9mm CA version with safety for future CCW....I don't care whether it has a safety or not. No big deal, just train with it. Well, put it this way....I wasn't going to pay $700 just to get a non-safety model on a gun that normally costs $350.

Never had any problems with the safety. I just don't use it. It doesnt get in the way.
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

9mm non-CA version. I had FTE's and FTF's so often with my CA version that I sold the gun and won't buy another one. I know the off roster version is improved but there's a bad taste left over.

The OP said roster doesn't matter. So he is either exempt or has someone out of State that can gift it to him. Pricing would not be as high as you said. Pricing for most off roster guns for exempt persons or out of State are usually less than the "Ca" models.

A Shield 45 is not much fun to shoot.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

The PPKS is off limits for a carry piece. German 99% condition. Then a Sig Sauer P2022 Jamming issues make it not reliable.
