What year? I bought mine in about 1979. My older brother bought one in about 1973 and ,because he was a re-loader, I put a zillion rounds thru his. I eventually bought one too...I almost one-upped him and bought a Python which at the time was about $125 more than the $200 Trooper. I'd like to have a do-over on that decision.

Right around 1980 or so. Paid $225 out the door.

Yes, I believe the original Trooper (til '69) has the same lockwork as the Python, it's just not as tuned and overall polished as the Python.

The later Trooper llls have a simpler lockwork and level of refinement....still good shooters.

And built like a rock. Troopers were made to be carried and shot. They were service weapons. Pythons were made to be pampered. Nothing wrong with that.

Actually, one can also get the Python 'look' by getting the Trooper V.

I love the Colt Troopers. I'm mostly an S&W guy but would not hesitate to buy a trooper if not for the revolvers I currently own. I simply would not pay the exorbitant inflated price for the Python. Nice gun OP.

The Old Model Trooper came after the Colt "357" model and although the lockwork is the same even the Trooper's "Wide Spur" hammer is a bit different than the Python. In addition to the extra attention during fit & finish, the additional leverage afforded by the Python hammer gives the impression of the action being easier to thumb cock. Sort the hammer equivilent of a trigger shoe making the SA pull feel lighter.

The OM Trooper and OMM share the same target grips as the Python, with the important exception of the medallion. The Python's is gold and the others silver. I've seen a couple of "factorty original" Python grips, alone of on a gun, that happened to be the wrong color.

I got a Trooper MK . Has holster wear on the muzzle but it is in great condition and clean. I shoot it with the rubber grips and then after I clean it put the Colt medallion wooden ones on for having around the house .

Its a big hunkablued metal that shoots like a dream.

Unlike my Python, it gets shot a lot. I actually like it more than my Python cuz I'm so afraid of blemishing the Python that I have to handle it with "kidd gloves" all the time.
