I like that in the Buffalo Bore load. Like most everybody here I have no real world experience. But, those Barnes rounds are the most impressive I've seen in lots of youtube vids.

          .45 Defensive ammo

Hey, for .45 only I use Speer Gold Dot. The flying ashtray.

          For everything else, Hornady XTP.

There is ammo called "Guard Dog" available in .45 specifically designed not to over-penetrate walls, but here's the thing: A human rib cage is much, much tougher than a typical interior wall. Anything that's going to do damage is going to punch through a wall or two. All you can do about it is to have good aim and to know what's further down the way from any given firing position in your house.

Here's the most in-depth comparison I've seen of the options. The Winchester T-Series looks like a stand-out for expansion, though by FBI criteria Hornady XTP +P looks like a winner.

Federal hst or Speer gold dots. I've had no issues with either one.

I tried gold dots and the accuracy in my 45 was pie plate. I've been using Winchester rangers/PDX but bought 250 rounds of HST. I run HST in my 9mm as well.

Yep, that's really what it comes down to.

The only gun you can safely shoot at a wall is an airsoft.

Rule #4 of firearm safety. Be sure of what lies beyond your target. That's the only safe way to make sure you don't hit something through a wall that you don't want to hit.

If you don't have any way of being sure that you aren't going to shoot a loved one through your wall accidentally, you should consider alternative defense weapons than firearms.

Taser, mace, baseball bat, sword, whatever.

If you're relying on ballistics data to save your loved ones from your missed shots, you should reconsider utilizing a firearm for that purpose.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.
