    Installed my first 1911 trigger

I have loved flat triggers on 1911s since I shot a buddies sig scorpion 3-4 years ago. I'd bought a 10-8 performance trigger about a year ago but had never tried to do anything with it. Well that changed the other night when I got a wild hair and decided to do my own gunsmithing. Bought some files and took my time and got the trigger in perfect!

Probably should have tried this on my rock island first instead of going straight to the Dan Wesson! Oh well

Nice job man. Always an accomplishment when doing something yourself. And you're right, you should have started on your RIA first 😂

Did you sand and polish the outside's of the Tigger bow. It makes a huge difference in the smoothness.

        Good job.

Doing it on a RIA probably would've frustrated you and taken longer due to tolerance issues and inconsistent manufacturing defects. Dan Wesson was a good starting point to build confidence. Now go back to try it on the RIA if you'd like...

          Looks great!
Plus you have the satisfaction of having done it yourself.

Nice job! Now that wasn't really that hard, was it? The 1911 is a very simple system, was the first gun I gave a shot at smithing myself

              Nicely done...

What did you have to do though? I assume you did all the function checks as well.

Do you have a trigger bow tool? Make sure the mag still drops free.

Had to file the top and bottom of the actual trigger cause it was too tall to fit initially. Once I got it to fit there was just the tiniest, tiniest amount of play up and down the same as the trigger that came with it. Then I had to file down the overtravel stop as it comes fixed on this trigger. Took me probably an hour and a half to get it exactly how I wanted it. I kept putting everything back together to check tolerances at least 8-10 times.

Not sure what that tool is but the mags drop free just fine.

Dan Wesson FTW! Nice job, OP.
My biggest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

Well, then I am glad it all worked out. And it sounds like you knew what had to be done. I have personally run into some issues with triggers in the past and learned how to deal with them, so just wanted to make sure you didn't have any of those issues.

The jig for the bow helps if you have drag on it when inserting a mag.

With just the bow installed and no mag catch, slide the mag in with the frame laying flat. If the shoe moves when sliding in the mag it means it may drag on the mag when pressing rearward.
Check both sides of the bow by laying the frame on the other side.
If it contacts, be super careful tweaking the bow. This is where the jig helps.

Check out how to notch your forward edge of the bow and create your own pre travel adjustment nub. This works very well if you have loads of excessive trigger movement.

Don't get me started on working the disco, flatspring, sear.......

Great job on doing it yourself...
