Was messing around with my colt defender today and noticed what seems to be a crack in the barrel. If you run your nail accross it you can feel it, but it could be just a lip also. Is this something that's just a blemish from the factory or is it cause for concern? I've never noticed it before, I've also only shot it twice. I plan on calling Colt, unless the concenses is that it's nothing. Has anyone seen something like it on a Colt before?

It looks like a crack to me, but I'm no expert. I would take it to a local gunsmith and see what they say before sending it to Colt for warranty work. My understanding is it could be 6+ months to get a pistol back for repair, but they stopped taking new Custom Shop orders so who knows. -

Colt defender crack???
The areas with the red arrows make it look like a crack to me in the photos, and not a machining blemish. If it were mine I would definitely have it looked at. JMO, sorry man.

That's really strange. I had one and sold it for financial reasons, and I had a few hundred through the pipe. Never any problem.WTS HK USP45c http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1304283Comment

Seems like a manufacturing defect to me. Or you had a round over pressure? Anything on the brass you shot to indicate it seemed out of whack? That is really unfortunate, but Colt should be able to help you out. I talk smack about Kimber and their quality control, but this is a good reminder to me that anything can happen with mass production.Comment

It is crack, no doubt for me.
If you are in San Fernando area, I can run this barrel through X-Ray for you.
Here is one more method to be sure. Wipe out that area with oil, wait for 5-10 minutes. Then wipe out with clean rug, couple of times dry, so you don't see any oil at all. Mark that area with white chalk (the same used in school) and wait for 5 minutes. If chalk will develop oily line-then it is for sure crack.
From what I see-it is crack.sd_shooter:

Why not take the gun apart and show us how the underside of the slide looks, take other pictures of the barrel at different angles, etc?
It certainly looks like a crack from these pictures...Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns...Comment

Doing a quick search reveals at least another post on a different forum asking about a line. Theirs doesn't look like yours. But still, a few people are confirming that at least they see manufacturing defects in the same spot. Then, looking at pictures, you can even see a line in this photo, so again, there seems to be at least some barrels with a step there, but the line would be straight if it was machining produced.
