    Kahr CM9 vs Shield

When it comes to the battle of the single stack CCW 9mm's why does the Smith & Wesson Shield out perform the Kahr CM9 in sales when the Kahr is so much more concealable for the intended philosophy of use? The Khar is shorter in over all length, is several ounces lighter and is shorter in height.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's because the Shield doesn't require a 200 round break in for one.

From experience it takes a true commitment to lean the double action trigger on the Kahr over the Shield trigger. Most want to open the box and shoot like a pro without putting in the time. It's going to take more time to do so with the Kahr. I have a Kahr PM9. At first it was difficult to hit my intend target. I knew it was the operator not the gun. After putting more than the required 200 rounds down range I noticed a vast improvement. I've been told once you master the DAO trigger everything else is a peace of cake to shoot.

Kahr beats shield any day IMO, not a fan of the shield... I've bought 3 new ones and sall performed 100% out of the box, I think the problems are with the p380 because it's so (too?) small... the trigger isn't hard to learn, if you shoot revolvers at all... I shoot glocks and kahrs mostly, and don't have trouble transitioning between the 2 very different triggers. YMMV

The Kahr is a very good gun, I would choose it for deep concealment or as a back up gun over the Shield. But for normal concealed carry, I'd take the Shield.

But I'll add the G-43 to the mix, it is right in between the two as size goes and prefer it too both.

The long trigger pull of the kahr never bothered me. The cm9 is off roster. So in California, at least, the on roster shield is a winner.

Here in California, only the PM9, not the CM9, is on roster, making the Shield considerably cheaper; though a better comparison is the Shield vs. the CW9. I suspect Kahr's less than stellar reliability history (at least on gun forums) and it's small size also add to the sales discrepancy. Having said that, I sold my Shield and now own both the PM9 and CM9 for effective pocket carry.

                  Simple. $$$

For the money, the shield is quite easily the best value subcompact 9mm pistol in America.

Carried the Kahr MK9(PM9) for about 6 years as a backup and it does sometimes have issues with fully going back into battery. The shield doesn't have that issue and the trigger (with the Apex) is a quicker trigger for follow up shots.

Don't have a Shield, but I did shoot one. I liked it. Also shot a CM380 which was sooooo tiny. I would love to have a CM9, really, but the roster kicks out butt on that guy. So, I will have to stick with my self make Kahr Covert.

I didn't have much of a learning curve with my CW9 when I had it. The trigger pull WAS long, but it was just so buttery smooth that I adapted pretty quickly. But, yeah, there is that 200-250 round break in period. Then there is the issue of the inability of the gun to slingshot the first round into the chamber (not sure if any other Kahrs are like this)-an oddity more than a problem. I'd buy another!

Not a fan of the shortened grip myself, but I applaud you for excellent looking work! Love the polished slide!

Based on the fact that the glock 43 is more reliable than the Kahr and lighter than the Shield it may be the best of both world despite the smaller dimensions of the Kahr? The best compromise??

I don't believe concealability alone is the reason for the better sales of the Shield. The Shield offers more options if you live in a free State. The Shield comes with a 7 and 8 round magazine while the CM9 comes with just one 6 round magazine. Yes, you can purchase after market magazines with higher capacities for both pistols but for some people purchasing more magazines after already spending $$ on the initial purchase is appalling. The Shield comes with a safety or NO safety. The Shield comes with the shark fin or no shark fin. The Shield comes with a rail where you can attach a laser and/or light. The Shield feels good in most persons hands. The CM9 feels, well, like a Glock and looks like a Block too. In all, the Shield can fill the need for many persons who just need one gun.
