Some of the really early ones had a crummy finish on them that were prone to surface rust if not oiled properly
nothing to worry about if the price is right as you can get it duracoated for cheap (I think I payed 50 bucks)

If you complain, the factory will refinish it for free. I've been temped to do it to mine, but it doesn't really bother me that much.

Yeah I figured they would but I wanted the duracoat anyways
I have a new xd45 that I will probably have duracoated as well

I bought an XD9 a few days ago for $375, right here in the OC. Gun had about 1500 rounds through it. Still looks in great condition (really looks like the PO took good care of it). Came with 2 mags and the box, manual. I'm quite happy with the deal I got. These things are reported to last a long long time, so 1500 rounds is just a drop in the bucket.

I think anything less than $400 for a used one is good.

Most of the used ones are going to have the better finish as they only had the crap one for the first year or so
