    Revolver Question

    Guys,
I'm thinking of getting a revolver for my wife. She seems to like the revolver better than the FNX she has and the G19 g4.
Im not much of a revolver guy. The only revolver I have is 629 comp.
I did the search but couldn't pick one.
Any recommendations ? And possibly in 9mm??? Thank you

    Have her rent several.

If just for plinking, there are several .22s.
SP 101 DA, Ruger Single Ten SA.

    Bigger:
    GP100 and S&W 686, maybe a 4" barrel.
Start with .38 special, then think about .357.
    Probably avoid snubbies.

There are several threads and a sticky in the Ladies forum about this. Bottom line is to let her pick.

My wife likes her S&W model 10, heavy barrel, with small grips. Rent some different revolvers at a Range and see if any of them speak to her.

4" GP100, she can shoot 38's through it until she gets used to it. Or forever for that matter. Great gun

Gp100 with 3" or 4" barrel. My wife and daughters shoot them well and love them. I just went to the range with a friend and his wife shot all the guns and loved the GP100 3" as well.
It seems the bigger grip and weight of the revolver makes shooting 38s a breeze to shoot.
I seriously would look into the gp100s, they are cheaper than the S&Ws.

Op, if you want, let me know and we can go to Angeles Range and your wife can shoot our GP100s, we have 3 and 4".

On a side note, another gun that most people like, is my USP Compact 9mm because its a soft shooter and has a thin grip. I can bring that as well.

            Just pm me

All my wife ever wants to shoot these days is .38spl out of her 4" 686+, and occasionally my 1911s.

                9mm revolver:

                Ruger LCR
                Smith and Wesson 929
                I have not shot these.

                The 929 is around $1K.

Another vote here for a K Frame S&W (Model 64 or 66), an L Frame S&W (586 or 686) with .38 Specials. Recoil is moderate even with +P loads, the grips are small enough for most ladies' hands, and they will last a lifetime.

The Ruger GP100 or SP101 are good alternatives as well. As stated above, go test fire some and let your wife choose the one she prefers.

Had one of these for a time. My wife loved the smaller grip and shot .38 special very comfortably.

As noted above, a quality S&W 4 inch barrel "K" frame revolver would work out well. Whatever you do, do not fall into the trap of getting a small short barrel J frame revolver, because it is"cute" or light and she can easily hold it. The smaller short barrel revolvers all have excessive muzzle flash and heavy sharp recoil.

This is true and I would add that J-frame triggers are pretty mediocre, while K-frame triggers are significantly smoother and feel lighter. I gave up on a 642 (J-frame) after trying 4 or 5 different grips, but never being able to shoot it very well. The oldest gun I own is a K-frame Model 10 snubby. The sights are rudimentary, but everybody who shoots it likes it, and i think it's because the (stock) trigger is so good. The downside here it that the K-frames are harder to carry and conceal.

Instead of specifics, let me give you a few general pointers.

Revolvers come in vast array of sizes and powers. The smaller the revolver the cuter it looks, but the harder it is to shoot. Do NOT get a J-frame UNLESS your wife has shot it and loves it. Next, if you get the standard 357/38 setup, make sure your wife likes it with 38 since chances are that's what she'll mostly shoot. Don't go to 357 (or 44) unless your wife absolutely loves it - novelty of kick wears off and people tend not to practice with anything that is less than comfortable to shoot.

As for 9 (or any other rimless cartridge), it's not a bad choice but it will require moonclips. Sure, rounds can headspace in the properly cut cylinder without moonclips, but you might get FTF due to round being too deep and you WILL have problem extracting cases since the extraction star has nothing to catch. I wouldn't go to 9 or 45 ACP revolver as the first or only choice for someone who is not a "revolver person."

I have a Ruger LCR 38+P and really like it. It's very light but has very manageable recoil. My friends wife shot mine and bought one that day. Rent one for her.

K-frames, or maybe L-frames - lots of grip options and great triggers.
