    DE 44mag Recoil Spring question

    Hello ya'll!

Quick question about the Desert eagle ( I know I know just hang in there)...

By removing the inner recoil springs, would I be able to shoot regular factory rounds from LAX Ammo or Freedom Munitions? Has anyone experienced with this? I'm thinking if there is less tension on the slide it will move far back enough to chamber the next round.

Here is what Ammo I have tried but was't able to cycle properly, the fired round gets ejected but it will not load a new round in the chamber. No limp wresting here, i had 2 range masters and a guy with is SW 500 try it just to take that factor out.

These were all factory new 240grn 1100-1200 FPS FMJ HP and SHP:
    LAX Ammo
    Freedom Munitions
    PPU
    Fiocchi

I have some PMC high velocity rounds that I haven't tried yet (1490 FPS)

Add a little tiny tiny bit of grease to the slide . Makes a world of difference . I wouldn't go taking the springs apart .

I have slide-glide all over it, I'll check to see if I've missed any spots. Thanks.

I might have to find someone to buy hot reloads from, factory ammonia too expensive. I might clean it and relube it. Thanks

The .44 eagle requires a certain amount of energy to work.

Commercial reloads are aimed at cost conscious revolver shooters.
              Factory recommendations.

Desert Eagles like full power ammo. You don't have to get the specialty max ammo loads, but the ammo can't be low pressure loads. I reload for my DEagle in 44 mag and most of the starting loads on published data are almost too weak to reliably cycle the action. My first DEagle was in 357 Magnum. I was very displeased with it expecting it to run with all types of ammo that will go bang in my revolvers. It sealed my belief in revolvers being the most reliable handguns especially when shooting Magnum hunting sidearms. The gas system of the DEagle is designed to handle full power rounds. The double recoil springs are stiff and the slide is heavy. Bullets with exposed lead at the base will gunk up the gas system. Continuous shooting of premium hardcast hunting bullets even at max pressure will surely gunk up the gas system.

Also make sure your magazine is in proper working condition. I learned that only OEM mags are reliable. Those Promags magazines will give you headaches.

I think that was the issue w mine. I do not reload so I just tried running Magtech .44 mag FMJ- 50cents/round. Only gun I ever owned that jammed on me-- big thing was not going completely back into battery-- I think they just like ht loads.

Sold mine years ago but as always wish I had kept it. I've spent way more on match rifle ammo-- could've splurged on some higher quality .44 mag for it-- the recoil out of the DE is like shooting a 1911-- amazed me. Only if it would have worked!! But there are remedies for people more patience than me.

The PMC works great in mine, I've also tried Buffalo Bore - expensive but cycled perfectly. The WWB, Magtech and Reminton JHPs rarely got through a magazine without a failure to return to battery or feed.

It was defiantly frustrating, I didnt want to get rid of it. It has been my dream handgun to own for years and years. Luckily PCM and Magtech worked. I did not want to sell it.

I was hoping LAX factory new and Freedom would work, they are around $.50 a round vs the $.70 I pay for magtech and PCM.

Ive heard about those ammo messing up the gas chamber, not many FMJ on the market that will run through it. Magtech 240grn FMJ is the only one that cycled. The PCM is open at the nose so im not sure if it will cause issues. What do you think?
