Rimfire is NOT EXEMPT from CA Assault Weapon laws.

Yes, as long as it has a fixed magazine that is either contained in the firearm and can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or permanently attached to the firearm.

CA assault weapons laws for handguns is different from CA assault weapons laws for rifles.
One of those differences being CA assault weapons laws for handguns applies to rimfire pistols.
