Interesting conversation with SIG custom shop

I have a P938 for which I wanted to buy a new rounded SAS slide. The clerk asked why I didn't just buy a new gun and I told her that I was in CA. She told me that they didn't sell slides, but I could send it back to them to swap the slide out for a charge - as long as I sent my LE credentials for the return.

Apparently, swapping out the slide somehow creates a new gun in their eyes and they cannot do it for a non-exempt.

Anyone else ever heard of this?

Call again. They will SAS both the frame and the slide (or either, your choice) for a fee.

Why is she even questioning why you want to buy just a part? Call her back and tell her to go back in the kitchen. =)

No, seriously, you should call back. she is just another uninformed individual. excuse her because she clearly isn't from kommiefornia. you will have to pretty much talk to her MANager and just tell him that you are familiar with the PC and just have to state PC #'s. you'll get a new slide but it'll cost you.

Never had this issue. Have sent P226s and P229s in for new slides and work with no issues. All were off roster and they always sent it right back to my house. Try again and speak to someone else.

If you still have trouble send me a PM and I'll get you in contact with my guy at Sig

It's not them it's the state in which you reside.

That seems odd. Did you speak to a manager or just a CS rep?

No, it's SIG. The CA Roster applies to dealer sales. It does not apply to a gun already legally owned in this state. If OP wants to send it in to have the slide changed, he should be free to do so.

And what's worse is that SIG can't seem to be consistent with their CA policies. They change all the time depending on which employee happens to take your call.

I love SIG and have had no issues with their CS. But sadly, what he said is true, but could be said about many companies. That's why I deal specifically with 2 people at Sig. They know what's up.

Never heard of that. Honestly doesn't make much sense to me either.

Well, not completely the same scenario for me, but I did ship and off roster P238 to Sig for work and they shipped it back to me directly to my house. No issues.

Slightly OT, but Sig related - I want to know when my P220 (made in W. Germany) was manufactured. Any help in doing that?

I bought a traditional slide for my Sig 1911 with no issues, just had to pay them 200bux This was a year or so ago though, but I doubt anything has changed.

post the serial# and I will give you an estimate. It should start with G.

I got it as a consignment sale via an LEO who bought it as his duty weapon and was then told by the Chief that they don't use Sigs.... It came with six magazines and a Bianchi double magazine holster. Excellent price, as well.
