Help me identify this 1911

My father has owned this 1911 for over 20 years now and we have never been able to identify what make it is, it was made between 1929 and 1932, it has very few visible markings and the caliber is .38 super. Now that cartridge was developed in 1929 and with the low serial number and date of manufacturing, I think I have one of the first 1911s colts chambered in that caliber but I'm no 1911 expert. There's a small engraving on the side that looks like an S.C. (Samuel colt?) the gun is old and worn out but works like a charm!

any thought my fellow gun enthusiast?

Turn off the flash, get rid of the white paper background. Put it on a piece of wood and take some pics outside in natural, indirect or diffused light - not in direct sunlight. A lot more pics. A least one pic that shows the entire gun in one shot. And attaching them makes them small and lower quality, so host them somewhere.

Sorry, I am a picture Nazi. Junk pics are a peeve of mine, especially when someone asks 'what is this old gun'.

that was what i first thought but it looks way different than the 1911 Llamas that ive seen, how can i tell it is?

^ Yes, the extractor which is that metal bar in the slide behind the ejection hole in the slide, makes me think it's up Spanish made "Lama" pistol as well.



But maybe Sam Colt owned it and that's why his initials are on it.

im pretty sure samuel colt didnt own it hahaha. thanks for the advice we where debating between llama or even star at first, but no horse means no colt in my opinion. although i didnt know llama made guns that long ago...

If you can't find any makers marks on it at all,
keep in mind that there were many smaller gun manufacturers in Spain at that time, trying to get by making what they could.

Its a standard Llama 38super. Mk5 or 6 Can't tell by those pictures. It will have a date code on it somewhere. The flaming bomb proof is Spanish. You can date it by the code on it. I would guess 60s. Does it say Elgoibar or Vitoria?

thank you! I just found a 1911 star with the same engravings on the frame but the slide is different. I think its like you said a Spanish made 1911

Its technically not a 1911. It really would be better to see full picture of the gun but probably worth around the $150-200 mark.

ive traced the frame back to star made at least, from 1945 according to the markings, thank you for the info. i didn't know they were that cheap, if you guys have any at your store? for that price i would buy one in a heart beat! i won't be selling this one probably ever due to more of the family history

Does it actually say .38 super? Might be 9mm largo......

Star made a fair amount of guns in 9mm Largo.

Until you get a new barrel with a compensator, to handle the brutal recoil, all new springs, a cerakote job and new rubber grips, I wouldn't waste the money on proper caliber identification & ownership.
