Last I heard on sigtalk was July, but many are also expecting it to slip to 2018 already. TBH, it's hard to tell how great the new X5 will or won't be, so I wouldn't wait for it. A lot of people are already disappointed that the new X5 will be nothing like the old X5. Doesn't mean it wouldn't make a great competition gun still, but it's just too early to know.

      Any thoughts on this?

If you can buy any off roster pistol for competition production category, what would be your choice?

Looking forward hearing from the expert.

      TIA
Save your money and shoot whatever full frame 9mm you have at some matches. If you don't get serious into competition shooting, then you got some experience and didn't buy a gun you didn't really need. If you get serious, you'll come to realize the 3 guns on Hopeton's list are excellent choices, and a have a better idea of what some alternatives might be.

Since you don't like Glocks and sounds like you're on a budget, the 5" PPQ M2 could be a suitable alternative.

5" PPQ M2 in CA will cost him at least $1,200-$1,300. Tanfoglio Witness Stock 2 in CA is around $1500-$1800. CZ Shadow in CA is around $1400-$1600. Glock 34 gen 3 is around $600 in CA and is the only one on the CA Roster.

If you want an off roster gun, you have to pay the price unless you have parents or kids living in a free state or roster exempt.

            CZ / Tanfoglio.

Carry Optics class was created for striker fired guns that couldn't compete in prod anymore.

You could just get a plain ordinary CZ SP -01 and hot rod it. It's 98% of a Shadow or Accu-Shadow.

For off roster the Tanfo Stock II is the Cadillac of pistols.

I own 2 CZs and 2 Stock IIs and I do like the Stock IIs better, but in all honesty changing to the Stock II didn't improve my shooting any. Changing from my M&P 9Pro to the Cz I did see some improvements in my scores pretty quick. The heavier metal gun just control recoil better and allow you to stay on target for faster follow up shots.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

I'm not a competition shooter at all. I'm just a novice handgunner with no training who shoots for recreational fun. After a bunch of CZs, I picked up a Glock 34 and discovered it's an excellent shooter on par with any of my CZs. It now sits bedside.

Recently picked up a Tanfoglio Stock ll and shot it today....sweet gun.

                  Here's the 1st two mags @8 yrds.....

Buy a CZ75. If you were to go to Europe and Asia and shoot IPSC matches, you'll find that CZs dominate the production division. It's only here in the US that CZ doesn't have as big a share of the production division as in the rest of the world.

If you want something unique but awesome for the price, Grand Power K100 X-Trim or Grand Power Excalibur

If you are LEO and can get an off roster pistol the stock II is what I would go with or any shadow variant http://benstoegerproshop.com/complet...eaa-tanfoglio/

The glock 34 isn't approved for ipsc production and the 5lb first shot rule makes a DA/SA hammer fired pistol more attractive than a striker fired gun.

                              Tanfo Stock2
CZ Shadow, although SP01 (roster) + polish and CZC/Cajun is mighty fine too
                              Glock 34, M&P Pro, XDm

I shot M&P when I was shooting Production.

If you want XDm, get it. Its a good Production gun. Just try to get the 5.25
