    Next 1911

I have a sig stainless target and a dan wesson cbob. I am torn between a pm7, a kimber eclipse ii in 10mm, a springer of some sort, and saving/crying a little more for a new or used semi-custom. For some reason I want a 10mm but am hesitant to add another caliber and it seems like I can't get good info on Kimbers. People either love them or think you are buying a worn out name. I called dan wesson and they said they could get me everything I need to convert a pm7 to 10mm for about $1k if I sent them the pistol. Seems ridiculous to do that when I can get the kimber under $1200 but I am very confident in them. Or do I get a Springfield and watch the marketplace? Experiences and recommendations appreciated.

I haven't had experience with either of the options you are considering...
But, I can say with confidence that any 1911 can be tuned to perfection. If you are dismissing Kimber because of "worn out name" but are willing to spend an extra 1k on a Wesson, I would bet that for much less you could make a Kimber perform like the super expensive (in the end) Wesson. That is if Kimber misbehaves.

Springfield can be hit or miss too, apparently, but maybe with certain models. Dan Wesson, from what I understand is a semi custom, so it will have more attention to detail before it gets to you. Others, again, based on model, could be run of the mill production guns with or without "issues".

But most of those "issues" are solvable for much less that 1k, and that is only if you go with someone other than factory for "tuning"

    Just my 2 cents.

Three sa operators in the safe and all have been gtg. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, mc operator should be making its way home by February. Can't wait!

I've heard nothing but praise from everybody that has a 10mm.

Personally, I dont see the point, .45 and 9mm are good enough for me. I dont want to stock another cartridge.

I love my SA loaded target stainless. If I get another 1911 I would get the MC Operator. Definitely would not hesitate to get a SA 1911. They are an excellent value for the price.

My friend has a kimber and it is a fine pistol. He did have to replace the sights right away as the factory front sight fell off. Other than that it runs flawlessly and is very accurate.

If I could get any 1911 it would be the Les Baer monolith. Thats a handsome looking gun.

10mm ammo is very expensive and that is why my 10mm hasn't seen light in about a decade. If you reload, then consider it. Otherwise, I say don't do it and stick with .45.

I don't have experience with either pistol but I've heard nothing but good news about Dan Wesson, but definitely is a hit or miss with Kimbers and this is all based off years of being on this site and other sites reading about people's experiences with them. I believe something to do with the second gen Kimber grip safety that is an issue. Based on experiences by others and not mine and if it was me, I would go with Dan Wesson .45.

Personally, I can't speak on the 10mm, but I would consider a Les Baer PII if you had the PM7 in mind. The PM7 is good pistol (owned one), but at that price point, pitch the extra funds for the PII. You will get the 3" at 50yd accuracy guarantee and front strap checkering. plus it's a BAER.... Just my 2 cents... Give 1911 Heaven a call...

10mm aint that much more. Here's some for 30cpr.

Discover quality firearms, ammo, safes, knives, and all hunting/sporting supplies at low prices. Find guns and ammo in 9mm, .223, and .308, 12 gauge, etc. for good price!

IMHO, if you like the build quality of the Sig, you will be disappointed/unimpressed with any Springfield lower down the chain than a TRP, and maybe even with the TRP for the amount of money you need to spend. Go with a Baer/Wilson/etc.

Thanks for the info and opinions. I think I will stick with .45 and either look at higher end Springfields or wait a bit and look for a semi-custom. My only experience is a buddy with a wilson that he loves. So wilson, Baer, brown, nighthawk, or the cheaper wesson?

If you're sticking with .45 I think you're gonna have to part with some serious cash if you want something you'll like better than your CBOB...

I've owned several stock Kimbers and all of them were dependable and accurate.
I've also owned several RIA that weren't as pretty but we're also dependable. I prefer SA because it's hard to beat a TRP when it comes to upgrades for the value.

I would suggest an MC Operator or a TRP 3/4 rail for <$1,400.00 and shoot $600.00 worth of ammo (2,000 rounds?) through it in a month.
