    Off roster

So I had a close friends son get in contact with me earlier to today inquiring about his first .45. I welcomed him down to the shop and we proceeded to shoot the breeze for a bit before we got down to the topic at hand. This kid is well rounded for the most part and generally does his reasearch thoroughly tho we came upon a conundrum. He had three variances in mind and had researched prices both online and in local stores. Sad to say all of the items he brought to my attention were off roster, it took a good 20 minutes explaining that although he could acquire them he was looking at a substantial markup vs retail if he was planning on obtaining any of them at all due to the roster in CA. What got me thinkining is what double stack 45's are on roster? For some reason the kid is set on a double stack platform despite 10 rd restrictions (he does have a large hand, but still) there are very few that fit the bill. he does have multiple rifles so I opted to suggest despite being single stack, a rock island in 38 super which he could then potentially convert to 9mm or the 45acp he desires although it still would not be double stacked. My next piece of advice was a sig p220 or p227 , as to accommodate his desires. What say the community? I am planning on taking out my friend as well as his son this weekend and letting them try out most of what is available in order to see what suites him best but I figured getting some outside input couldn't hurt. I admit I'm typing this from the throne , after a long night of socializing so I apologize if anything is out of context. Hence why it is in off topic to top it off. Any input is appreciated.

My first thoughts for on roster double stack 45s are: CZ 97, glock 21 SF, glock 30 SF, Springfield xd 45 (three variants available).

I believe hk also has a double stack 45 on roster. And if you go single stack, add a sig p220 to the list to consider.

        Glock 21 or 30.

Readily available, cheap, double stack, dependable.

Unless he is set on a 1911 style pistol, these are great options.

Also consider a .45 shield (off-roster, but available), not double stack, but an excellent .45 carry option if he decides to go that direction.

There have been a few CZ97s on the marketplace recently at what I would consider reasonable prices... $700-ish & thereabouts.

How pathetic Cali is and how the feds have let us down. Watching the roster shrink is just sad, and having a roster to begin with is even sadder

Does the kid plan on CCWing in the near future. That might convince him to go single stack.

Definitely see how he feels after he has actually shot some of his choices.

He; and anyone else who wants one, can get a double stacked 2011 brand new from SOME dealers.

If you want one contact Baboosh on this board. He'll hook you up nicely.

                        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

His mind is made up and specific to certain models so help him find what is attainable out there and giving him alternatives and options for another models is great to his advantage though.
