    Hi Points

So I here a lot of discussion on Hi points in different threads, but no real clear answers so,
What do you like, what do you hate, Price Vs. reliability, etc etc.

thanks guys, oh and to be specific I'm looking to get a Hi point c9.

I'm sure you have done a search as this topic comes up with some frequency. I would also suggest reading a bit at:

From my take, they are decent guns for the money, look a bit funky and won't win you any points from some gun snobs. Yes, the slide is basically pot metal (some kind of Zinc alloy used in Die Casting as I recall) but as far as reliability, alot of people seem to think its not an issue. Oh and they do offer a lifetime warranty even if you are the 12th owner.

As a plinking gun I'm sure they are fine but for HD you might want to step up a bit and get something like a Ruger unless you put a few hundred rounds thru it without any problems.

Wheh! Hope that covers it! I sure wouldn't mind owning one of these though:

I like the price, i hate that i cant get the 45 in cali.

I like the warrenty which is not only life time but also transferable to another user, I hate that you can only buy one a month.

I like the fact that when you pull the trigger, it goes bang but i hate the fact that it isnt a match/target pistol (good for shooting up to 15 yards and perhaps a bit farther, it wont shoot past 100yards accuratly though, then again very few do...)

I like the fact that the recoil is very light, i hate the fact that its a bit top heavy (you get use to it pretty quickly though).

I like that mines is reliable, i hate other people which dont own one or only shot one once saying they always jam (cuz they dont!)

I tried one out at the gun shop. Was grinning the whole time.

It's plastic, the top half is a chunk of metal (not stainless, some alloy used in making low-cost parts.) The polymer/plastic is very slippery, and the trigger is mushy. But then again it only costs $200.

However, a used glock or S&W M&P is only $350-400 used, so why save $200 to buy a throwaway pistol? M&Ps are warrantied for life, and work just as well, if not better.

sw are not transferable and they cost 2X as much. sure I can afford more expesnive guns but I like the novelty of it. Plus it works so who cares?

They may not be transferable, but I haven't heard of anyone getting turned down for warranty service.

Also, it works but for how long? I'm just stating the facts. People should interpret for themselves if they want to spend $200 on a pistol. It's not that good for target shooting, and I would spend more money if you want to use it for home defense. I'd rather get a shotgun. Much more effective.

Yeah i can get a Glock and im going to get more but I want some other types of guns to lol, like eccvets said its the novelty of it!!! lol and fell its less than 200 OTD so wtf why not haha.

Haha well i wouldnt use a pistol for HD anyways but thats just me, I have a mossy 500 7 shot for that, I just wouldnt want to grab the ruger or glock, I like the feel of my shotgun better.lol

Where so cal do you live? I live in LA and often shoot at OC Indoor Range in Brea. The best way to tell if Hi Point is worth your money is to shoot one. I think the gun was worth my $150. Though, since now I have better toys, I rarely shoot my c9 any more. But as far as $150 goes, you can't get a better gun(well, not nib nor in CA).

I'm intrigued by them as I've seen them sold used with prices hovering around $100. I have other guns for defense, but I think it would be fun to pick up a gun in a caliber I do not own for under $150 OTD. Some loathe the thought of owning one others are willing to at least try them, just how life goes I guess.

BTW their carbines are sick. especially for the price.

I would own one but their prices are to high for what they are. For $200 id rather buy a makarov or pa-63, or some other used beast. There are guys selling theese things used at 2x retail. I dont get the market, seriously a $100 gun sold used does not equil 2 bills
FOR SALE: XD45, 24/47 Yugo Mauser, AK RPD AES-10b

I agree, for 200 bones I'd rather have a Cz-52, or a well priced Tokorev. But, If I can get one used for 120-150 OTD, It's a deal. It'd be nice to have a 9mm for some desert plinking (i don't have one yet ).

seems like they might make a decent "trunk gun" I wouldn't wanna keep any of my nicer pistols in the trunk in the off chance that my car gets ripped off
