Moving to Cal

From Utah. I would like to purchase an XD-45 before the move. Any advice as far as what is legal what is not. Obviously 10 rounds are legal. What feature to pay attention too? Thanks.

DONT MOVE. but if you ahve to buy a XDM instead. buy everything off roster NOW.

WRT pistols, assume any pistol that is patterned off of a rifle design is out (there is minutiae in this, but I don't know it). Same with any "tactical" features (threaded barrel, barrel shroud).

definitely get some xdm s they're coveted here. no threaded barrels mostly for standard style pistols. ten round mags obviously. if you think you may want it and it's not in the roster get it. even if you hate it you will make money selling it here.

buy as many off roster and if you dont like them for any reason you wont have any loss in value maybe sell double the cost though.

Period. End of story. How much is your freedom truly worth? Is it a job? Find an alternative. If it's a woman, she better be able to, um, never mind.

Seriously, you've no idea what you're moving to. Now, if you do have to move, I strongly suggest you plan for a temporary move. Don't make it permanent. Get it in your mind that your end game is getting out.

Trust me. Lived here my whole life. It looks like heaven. That's the devil's trick. I'm just beginning in getting out. Literally. I'm beginning the exploration process. I see myself 2-3 years max left here.

size depends on if you intend to carry and if you'll be in a county that issues ccw. if you're like me get the biggest one you want because at best it will be an he bed side weapon. at worst it will be a heavy club or brick to throw at someone in a defensive scenario. that said rm1911 has some very sage advice for you. if you can heed it I highly recommend it.

Buy all 4, move to CA, shoot them, decide which one you like best, then sell the rest for double what you paid for them.

Ditto to all above, other than the weather and a decent sushi place, it really sucks if you're a firearm aficionado. Utah sounds like the promise land in comparison.
