I don't have a lot of money to spend on a surefire and I know they are awesome. Has anyone used one of streamlight's setups with success?

    Thanks for the help
Hey Joe (can I call ya joe? )

I went through the same dilemma as you on several different platforms all be it 9mm. I have the Surefire X300 Ultra (500 lumens I think) and the Streamlight TLR-1HL (800 lumens) both without lasers. I had a Crimson grip laser on an XD for awhile and even tried the TLR 4-G on my XD Tactical 5"

For me what I found is the light AND the laser were hard to focus on. Like you I need the Light. At 54 in the dead of night inside or outside I need Lots of light to see well. While others will chime in the 500 or 800 is too much light (and it might well be), or giving away position, etc., for me I want the freaking sun to be on when I point my weapon at someone to ensure I know who and why I am doing so.

What I found, and you might be different, is the light allowed me to get on target quick without having to worry or fumble for a second button for laser so I got rid of the laser and now just run the lights.

When I shoot at the range I shoot with the lights to practice with the weight of those setups on the end of the pistol.

Both Streamlight and Surefire are excellent choices for HD applications. Surefire might be a bit better for heavy duty frequent applications but for HD use I think the Streamlight is a better bargain/value so much so that I will be getting two more TLR-1HL for my ARs.

Good luck and practice with the light and or laser if you decide to get the combo.

      If you're on a budget skip the laser and buy a TLR-1 ($100) or Surefire x300 ($200).

Some good points in here about using a light as well as the laser.

We keep lights on all night, so I never wanted a light on my pistol and I don't want to make myself a target. But I suppose there could be a cut power situation. I keep a bright rechargeable spotlight by the bed, but a weapon light might be useful in certain situations.

A laser can make a nice dry fire training tool as well.

BTW the TRL4 can be set to turn on the laser and the light with one switch. Easy.

I went with the Streamlight tlr-2 hl g, only had it 2 weeks but so far I totally love the thing, best gun related thing I have bought in years. I was at the range last weekend, the green laser was not visible at 25 yards in the sunshine (and I didn’t expect it to be) but it was barely visible at the 7 yard mark, good enough to zero it although I had to have my wife help with seeing it sometimes, it was a nice sunny day.

I didn't buy it for daytime use, just wanted to zero the laser. At home at night, the HL is really super bright and the laser is visible quite a long distance.

I like my tlr4 was too cheap to spring for the tlr2.

              Just for clairty -

The TLR-2 series has a selector switch for:
              1: Light
              2: Laser
              3: Light and Laser

there is only one "Power ON" paddle, and it will turn on whatever the selector was switched to. This means when you went to bed, if the selector was set to "Light & Laser" when you go to turn on the unit, both the light and laser will be turning on together.
