Light/Laser combo recommendations

I have my go to pistol in the safe and was considering getting a light combo maybe with a green laser. The pistol is an MC operator SA

Streamlight 69245 TLR-4G TLR-4G with Laser

I don't have a lot of money to spend on a surefire and I know they are awesome. Has anyone used one of streamlight's setups with success?

I have a TLR-4. Kind of bulky and the laser is pretty far below the bore axis.

Don't go cheap like I did. Damn thing flew off the Glock last night after a few magazines of shaking loose. I leave it on for practice because I want to have the weight of it there since it will be on the weapon if I were ever to need it in an emergency.

I have a couple other lights on my wish list, but I learned my lesson on that one.

Have you had professional defensive firearms training, including how to effectively deploy white light?

You kinda need that in order to really get anything out of a light/laser other than the looks cool factor.

The lasers can be adjusted with an allen key.

For me the light is because I was unfortunately born without night vision.

No I am not a pro, No I have not had tactical firearms training. No I cannot see in the dark which is why I'd like to have the ability to use a light momentarily if needed in my home.

Yes I can handle a weapon just fine

Does this qualify me to buy one?

Have you had an issues with your x400 ultra not holding zero? I am on my second x400 that seems to lose its zero after a few hundred rounds.

I have not. i have the x400 on my HD gun, which I don't shoot as often as I should. But I usually just zero it after every trip to the range just in case. Never have to make much adjustment but I don't shoot 100s if rounds. Only maybe 50 max

A directional light that is available at your disposal is always an advantage. Depending on where you live and how sophisticated home invaders are they may just cut your phone and power off. Those house light switches won't be any good without electricity unless you have an auto power aux/generator.

Let's say the power is uninterrupted and you flip a switch. That will tell whoever is invading your home where your general location is, unless you have a control panel to turn on the lights.

Most folks know how to use a flashlight, but in a defensive situation you wouldn't want to keep a constant on light. Do we really need formal training to use a weapons mounted light? I don't think so, but you need to make sure you know what and which selector to use if you have a selective switch, flashlight/laser combo.

Training or no training my Streamlight TAC and TLR-4 would be a great asset to have.

As stated, adjustable via allen screws for up/down and left/right. Like I said it's a little bulky but overall I like it. Good value.

But despite having zero firearms training, no low light or tactics training, or even fired their pistol with a light/laser in the dark before, our champion is able to repel the attackers with his 9 shot 1911, the skills harvested through thousands of rounds fired slowly at a bullseye target at his local public range, and hundreds of hours of online gaming experience. And especially because he had a weapon mounted light. That's what probably got Bin Laden. Not training and expertise of DEVGRU, but their lights and lasers.

Coming from an expert which it sounds like you most certainly are, I probably would have had zero luck if I bought a light.

I just bought a TLR-2 HL G and like it. I haven't shot in the dark with it yet, but have used a TLR-1 HL on a pistol and an AR in the dark and liked it. Some say the light output on an HL model is too much indoors and messes with your eyes first thing when waking up. However, if you have vision problems like I do, the more light, the easier it is to identify possible targets. I like the brighter light. And the laser is a must for me since I can't wear glasses and don't wear contacts while I sleep. I can't focus on irons without my corrective lenses.

I have also used a Viridian C5L at night on a pistol. I'm not SWAT, SPEC OPS, or a Chuck Norris wannabe. Just a regular guy that likes to target shoot and wants some bright light if things went bad at home and the wall switch wasn't within reach!
