After doing a bit more research, it looks like the frame and slide must come from Imbel. Beyond that I don't know. It could be entirely finished in the US or Brazil or something in between.

EDIT: I'm not bringing this up to rain on anyone's parade or imply that Brazilian made parts is a bad thing. Imbel is well known for turning out really good stuff. I just want to be informed when I go shopping.

Springfield's pricier guns are made in Geneseo, IL.

I believe the Loaded model and down to the GI model are made in Brazil.

Doesn't matter to me either way, my GI and my MC Operator both shoot great!

I emailed SA to ask and the response is what I expected:

        Hi Jeffrey,

Thank you for your interest in Springfield Armory Products. The MC Operator is made here in Geneseo, IL. We do get raw slides and frames from Brazil that are then finish machined and assembled into the MC Operator. They are made here meaning 51% or more of the work is done here in Geneseo, IL in our factory.

If you have any other questions please give me a call at 1-800-680-6866 ext 8996.

        Thank you,

So Imbel makes the blank frames and slides and ships then to IL where they are machined and assembled.

I have no problem with Brazilian-made guns, especially if it's Imbel doing the forging. I had a Taurus that worked perfectly as long as I had it. I just want to know the origin of materials and parts when possible. Being Chinese, Brazilian or Philipine doesn't denote poor quality, it just means that less of the work was done by workers in the United States. So if I'm comparing 2 models that are almost equal in every respect with a similar price point, something like this could come into play.

I still really like the MCOp, but I can't seem to pick a clear winner between that, a Kimber and a Colt...

How is the slide to frame fit on the Operators in general? I'm looking at the MC Operator and/or the Lightweight Operator.

All this talk is making me itch for one, but only if the build quality and tightness is there.

MC Operator's are hard to come by in Orange County. I've only seen it in 1 store and it was for $1299

Mine is TIGHT, almost zero play.

When I went to my FFL to sign the papers for my MC Operator, I could barely disassemble it because it was so tight. It's the tightest production (non-custom) gun I've ever fondled.

Buy the MC Operator, you won't be disappointed.

I have to agree. It is super tight for not being a custom build.

Like above. Mine is SUPER tight... my only issue is the slider release due to the plunger pin. It's an awesome 1911.

                    SA TRP Operator

Picked up my used SA TRP Operator (Full Rail) yesterday. Wow took it to the range with about 250 200 Grain LSWC reloads functioned great with around 1" groups at 15 yards.

                      Thanks!

Trying to decide between an Operator, Dan Wesson Pointman 7 or a Dan Wesson CBOB. I know....all different styles of 1911 so gotta figure out what I want ultimately. How about all three?! haha

I have a customized Kimber Stainless II already, but I am going to sell that beauty on here in a couple of weeks. Just looking for something different but still a 1911.

As others have stated, it is a very tight 1911 for being a non-custom type gun.. very accurate and reliable too.
