S&W 19

I just received two S&W model 19 revolvers. One is marked 19-3 and the other is 19-5. They look identical except for the grips, but why the different model #'s? Thank you.

They are different generation but I can't tell you what's different in detail between #3 and #5. Maybe some one else can share a piece of their wisdom.

Yup. However, your 19-3 is more desireable than the 19-5 since it's still P&R.

Don't want to sound stupid but what does P&R mean?

P&R stands for pinned and recessed. The barrel is pinned near the end of the frame. The cylinder is recessed so that the individual chambers are counter sunk allowing the rounds to sit flush with the back of the cylinder.

I bought two 19-5 snubbies in 2008, shown below, and paid $550 for the one on the left and $445 for the one on the right. Usually the 4 and 6 inch barrel versions go for slightly less.

P&R models go for a little more, with a box approximately $525-$550 in the San Diego area. The model 19-5, around $475-$500. If you don't mind telling, what did you get them for? Also, what part of California are you in. Just trying to get a feel for the regional price differences. HTH c good
