Single-action revolvers, with a min. barrel length of 3", and a min overall length of 7.5" (when measured parallel to the bore and fully assembled) are exempt, providing the revolver chambers 5 or more rounds. (12133PC).

I think the Cowboys are the ones they refer to as the Uberti clones.

The SAAs have the 4 clicks, cowboys don't IIRC.

The Uberti is actually a clone of the first gen SAA, and the Cowboy is a modernized version - no, the Cowboy doesn't have four clicks, but you can carry and load six in the wheel - transfer bar safety.

For a shooter - and I mean shoot the piece every week - the Cowboy is more cost effective than the run-of-the-mill clone, Uberti or otherwise.

The Uberti's I've seen are great looking guns (other than some with iridescent blue cylinders) but imo they don't hold up as well as a Colt SAA or a Cowboy to 1K rounds a month use. Get the Uberti upgraded to better internals and tuned, you'll have as much into it or more than a Cowboy.

some of the metal in the uberti's is sub-par....

I'd go with the $750 colt if it were me....

I was at the antique arms show in Vegas a few weeks back and there were hundreds of colt SAAs in every finish and condition.

Oh, that's beautiful. I can't quite make out the prices... Can you clue me in? I really can't be reading those tags right.

I just picked up this Colt SAA in .44 Special, and so far I love it! This is my first Colt as well as my first single action. It is not in perfect condition, but I paid less than $400 for it from an estate.

EMF Great Western IIs and Cimarron's are GREAT guns in that price range that feel like "real Colts"

Actually, the major parts were cast in Canada, and the piece was assembled & finished in the Colt Factory - mine has + 3K rounds down the pipe with no problems.
