what can I expect to pay for a "beater" Colt SAA that I can use for a shooter? I would expect it to be in servicable mechanical condition but the appearance is not that important. honest wear would be ok. any generation SAA would be OK. not really interested in the SAA clones as I want a Colt. prices I have seen at gun shows were crazy! I imagine the early generation SAA would be more pricey?

anyone know what the new gen Colt SAA run new? I don't think I have even seen one in a gun shop's display case and I have been in about 6 or 7 shops scattered all over California in the last few months. are the SAA Colts hard to find new from a a dealer?Comment

Those are off list but legal to buy from out of state - Widen your search by using Gunbroker and others -Comment

I've never seen a beater Colt that wasn't a First Gen worth $$$$$.
I have seen a heap of supposed mint or un-fired units that look like they
were in a fight in the display case and lost though. Those are the ones on

I was at the antique arms show in Vegas a few weeks back and there were hundreds of colt SAAs in every finish and condition.

THIS is teh one I should have bought --

Sec Gens were all around 2,500, thirds and new ones from are about $1300. If you want to shoot a real Colt you won't find and original finish Recent Colt for much less than $1000. Considering you'd spend a grand you can get a new one Colt in Rettings or Gunworld for not much mare than that.
Are specific single actions on the DOJ list? Can any brand be shipped to my gunstore?Comment

Look for a Colt "Cowboy" - should be under $750.00.Comment

Yeah I looked at those Cowboys. They just don't "sing" like the Originals.
They work fine, don't get me wrong, but I think they took a few notes
from someone else's design. It did bring the price down to earth for a real

I bought one about 6-7 months ago at RCGE. Brand new, 71/2" BBL, 3rd gen, BP frame in .45LC. It shoots like a dream. One of the best out-of-the-box revolver triggers I've ever experienced. I paid $1300. There are rumors that the Colts are overpriced because of the name, and that the SAA's are made on the exact same tooling/machines that Uberti uses AND that there is zero difference but the $. Don't believe it. Yeah, they're pricey, but they are Union-made in Hartford, CT by Colt craftsmen. You will get what you pay for.

I called this morning and they said they had NO SAA Colts in stock.
I have to pick up a Colt Lawman today that I did a transfer on at Jackson Arms and Tabor is not far from there so I will stop in anyway just for the heck of it.
FWIW I prefer the looks of the classic SAA and the New Frontier type just does not do it for me. I guess I have been watching too many old western movies!Last edited by atavuss; 01-31-2009, 10:55 AM.Comment
