If I recall the initial intent of the safe-roster was to get rid of the "Saturday night specials".

Wow it sure is a good thing we are getting rid of this dangerous cheap gun and taking if off the market!!!

I believe the initial intent is to get rid of handguns period. It just take some time, effort and cooperation from the court.

What if the state told General Motors that if they changed ANYTHING in a model on a car it had to meet the rule that the car must be capable of flying over 400 miles non-stop? GM would just drop out of California. Technology for flying cars has been around since the 1950's, maybe earlier, but it just is not practical and is essentially a dead end.
