Yes, exactly that. Depending on where you buy your components and if you purchase in bulk, you can get your cost down pretty low.

Currently, I'm able to load 9mm for approximately 4.5 cents round or $4.50 per 100. Even when I was using commercially bought projectiles, I was able to load for aproximately 11-13 cents per round.

The ONLY .22LR I shoot is CCI mini-mag or Blazer Brass 40 grain, either high or standard velocity. You can get it online everywhere.

The only 22lr guns I have are AR in 22lr, and ruger mk 3. Both eat up federal, so I only buy federal.

Do not let the people convince you that reloading 9 MM saves that much money.
Also if you shoot at a range that does not allow you to pick up your brass or shoot in grassy areas the picking up brass component of reloading that saves you money becomes a big time sink hole.
Reloading for 9 MM can be done...but a 22 conversion kit makes it so you do not have worry about reusing brass. Also no one considers the time commitment and equipment costs to be able to reload whether it be fast or slow and almost all the reloaders value their time at zero dollars per hour.
And I do reload, in fact this weekend "re"loaded 1000 9 MM rounds.

Now the dedicated 22 pistol vs conversion kit is a whole different story.

I have many 22 LR dedicated pistols and also have conversion kits for my Beretta 92FS, 1911, Sig P220 and Sig P226 with a dedicated 22 upper for my AR-15.
I would say I shoot my Browning Buckmark better than I do any pistol conversion kit. But now half of the rounds that I shoot through my 1911's are 22 LR instead of 45 ACP. I find the conversion kits to let me do things like get used to a pistols ergonomics and develop muscle memory.

I have been debating the same route in my mind! But the idea of having "TWO" functioning unit rather than one, has made me thinking of this debate.
Of course down the road like others who own multiple units is another story.
But you are right on the spot for having ergonomics feel and developing muscle memory.

Sorry, i did not put the response in the correct order. Dick's Sporting(local) has a sale on Fed Auto Match 22LR 325rd/$19. As i have added earlier, no shipping charges, but local sales tax. Roughly, 0.06/rd.

As for the ammo, Do you really have to follow their rule for the ammo type and kind (In my case I am looking for "ADVANTAGE ARMS CONVERSION KIT)? The CCI that they recommend is kinda hard to find in local store.

Of the short list of ammo AA recommends the only one I tried was CCI Mini Mags which were OK. I tried several other .22 brands are most worked poorly, to very poorly.

I sold mine. I didn't find it to be a good substitute for practicing with 'real' ammo. It was ok for practicing trigger control, but dry fire does the same thing.

As for cost, CCI Mini Mags are 9-12 cents each. I reload 9mm for ~ 13 cents. So no cost benefit.

I rented a Buckmark to try last week @ the range. It seemed heavy and the ask for $400-450.
