1911 Kimber feeding problem

Actually the intermittent behavior sounds more like extractor clocking... however the fact that it only happens with the last round in the magazine makes me think that it could be something else, though the extractor shape and tension could be the case.

Would be important to know how the round jams and specifically where.

I asked earlier if its jamming upward on the chamber - would be a key piece of information.

Last round jams are why I suggested mag springs and follower.

1-2 issues every 2 boxes of ammo makes it sound like a spring issue or a rough edge on extractor/other getting dirty.

Here is a picture of the malfunction, the magazine is still inside, this is the last round and this what happens. The magazines are fine, they are less than 3 months old and function fine with my Springfield 1911. Sorry for bad quality photo, but there is a round hung up in the barrel preventing the slide from going into battery.

Extractor too tight or square corner on bottom leading edge of the hook's recess.
The last round to be fed has less upwards push on it compared to the rounds above it.
But if it also happens occasionally mid-mag, then the extractor is the place to look.

A rough breech face can also cause this issue, but this is less common to find.

So, yeah, did anybody mention the extractor yet?

Thanks for the info, I live in the Bay Area theres a few 1911 gunsmiths around I might give them a call, to take a look at the Kimber, man what a bummer lol My Springfield 1911 Mil Spec works flawlessly and half the price hehe.

If it is the extractor is it a easy fix?

If you think you can do it, go for it.
Otherwise, take it to a smith or a 1911 guy.

22lb springs (factory is 18lbs) and a Wilson Combat extractor solved FTF and FTE issues for me at about 6000 rounds. Haven't had an issue since.

99% sure it's extractor, if it's bone stock pistol purchased brand new. Easy fix - good links and vids in previous posts.

I had the same problem with CMC Mags and Wilson in my Kimber Warrior. 2nd to last round would FTF.

Switched to Tripp Cobras, problem solved. The secret squirrel unit where I work supposedly uses Tripp Cobras in their 1911s.

1911s are magazine finicky. Make sure you test out different mags in your pistol before you get married to one brand of mag.

Another vote for the Tripp Cobras here. I just wish this particular gun wasn't finicky about mags, but it is what it is...

Do some research/studying of YouTube videos and check/tune extractor. Check hook for proper fitting. Look for rough spots.

Don't install a 22 lb recoil spring. That's addressing a symptom, not the problem.

As stated numerous times in this thread by people with more experience than me, it sounds like your extractor needs adjusting and/or is clocking.

Word of advice: make one change then test. If it still has issues, make another change and test. This way you'll know what was wrong for future reference.
