Glock and M&P

I have a lot of experience with Glock. Carry and shoot them for 23 years now. Bought my first M&P for off duty carry and very impressed with it!

How do Glocks and M&P's compare as duty/carry weapons in Your opinion ?

PS. Do not take the roster and magazine laws into consideration.

Everyone is going to be different. I am an m&p guy. I have owned several different glocks over the years but just can't get to like them.

As far as how they compare, my opinion is they are right on par with each other when it comes to reliability, accuracy and durability. You can't go wrong carrying either one.

I have both, prefer Glock but the M&P's are good service/work and carry guns. I would be fine with them, if I didn't have my Glocks.

The oddest thing about them is the inconsistency in the trigger from one gun to the next. They always seem to be changing, 'improving' the trigger. The newer guns are suppose to have better triggers then the older guns. But my newest M&P a full size .45 has by far the worst trigger of the four that I own, made in March 2014. The best trigger is on the oldest one I have(go figure)it is a VTAC made in October 2011, it's trigger is even better then my Pro made in January 2014. But that said all the trigger are more then serviceable for a duty carry gun.

If you put a Apex trigger on the M&P then it's superior over the Block. In my opinion , I don't like the grips on the Block, or its shape.. like a block. They are great Guns, I use one a lot but pull out my M&P more and XD. I prefer their grip angle as well

I truly hated the M&P trigger and was considering selling the gun before I put the APex trigger in. Some of the early guns had barrel issues but my VTAC version is a tack driver.

Honestly they compare very favourably. Both are great for duty/carry/HD and any other serious work depending on how they're set up. The glocks are a well tested design with lots of good after market bits as are the M&Ps. The primary difference really is that the M&Ps can be had with an actual frame mounted safety (if that's your thing). Both gen 4 glocks and M&Ps feature the changeable back straps, poly frames and relatively decent triggers (absent the NY triggers that is).

They're both great platforms and I trust my life with either one. Get the one that works for you and enjoy it

Since we're all operators here, I wouldn't trust the M&P's durability vs the Glock. It doesn't seem to do so well in water or other mediums. Otherwise, both guns are good choices.

silly man, the phone company did away with operators ages ago. So I'm pretty sure nobody on Calguns does that for a living.

The M&P 9mms are known to have accuracy issues at distance. I don't like roll pins, and the Glock is just easier to work on. The sights are a pain in the butt to remove on an M&P. No M&Ps for me.

I have a pair of 9c's .... neither one knows my Gen 3 26 is supposed to be more accurate.
They both certainly for me at least are easier to shoot well.......
One of the 9c's got dunked shortly after I got it.
I drifted both sights off and put them back on easy peasy
the rear was removed so I could be sure the passive firing pin block was dried out..... took the front off just in case water was between it and the slide.

For me the biggest difference is the grip ergonomics. That's it...and I hate that M&P trigger...but that's me.

My first M&P was terribly inaccurate compared to my Glocks, I believe they addressed that and the current models are good to go. The Shield I just bought is very accurate for such a small gun.

The M&P compact and full-size pistols have superior ergonomics to Glocks. If I was going to shoot and/or dry-fire no more than a moderate amount a year, say less than 4-5,000 rounds, I'd give the M&P the edge because if you are not shooting a lot, fit in in hand matters. Of course, some people will prefer the Glock fit, but for most the M&P "feels" better.

That said, I do shoot and dryfire enough that Glock fit issues are no longer issues. And since the Glock is, in my opinion, more of a "shooter's system"... that's what I roll with. Simplicity, parts availability, and longevity are all traits that Glock has an edge in over the M&P, some not so much, but enough for me.

I was just thinking about this last night -- I have a love/hate relationship with Glock. I love that they got it mostly right, I hate that they are either so greedy, so uncaring about the consumer, so arrogant, or some mix of any of those, that they have not made all of the tweaks that the market obviously wants. When a whole industry springs up to deal with slide and grip blockiness, that's a freaking clue that you can improve your design.

You are referring to U.S. Army Special Forces(Green Berets). No other SOF in the U.S. Military are called the 'quiet professionals' it belongs to them and them alone.

Hollywood likes to spread the term to other groups, but that is incorrect.
