Sorry, would've posted sooner but your last vid had Russian Fail Compilation up next, and you always have to watch a few of those.

Open for comment, or just posting for shooters?

I'm in the ess eff Bay Area, dang it!

I am always open for comments and suggestions.
I have heard everything from "Stupidest idea ever" to "Shut up and take my money".
I am trying to be very careful because I am not trying to use this forum for marketing. If I described the device in more detail, I think it would sound like marketing.

Very interesting idea. I am looking from mechanical engineer prospective.
Ever think about doing it on Oak Tree Gun Club?

From a mechanical engineering perspective, the biggest challenge in making this device is to control the copper/lead splatter.
Anyone who shoots steel knows that eventually, lead will trace every possible vector. I have learned the hard way that wires, switches and mechanisms 3 bounces away eventually get hit.

Is there such a thing as a SoCal CalGuns meet? I would be happy to bring a couple units for people to play with if they want.

From a JC grad who likes to shoot, that's the first thing that I thought about, looking at the layout. And a big +1 that anything in front of the muzzle will get shot eventually, even in competitions with experienced shooters. Trippy-looking stand, has a Transformers vibe.

Few other things that come to mind:

                    - This looks like it has the potential to be a lot sturdier and long-lasting than the light-up automated ones.

                    - Hopefully cheaper, too! Even if I had the money and someplace to use it, I can't see myself buying that system.

                    - Is the decreasing target size for the challenge or is it necessary to prevent out-of-order hits?

                    - It'd be nice to be able to pull a pin and swap out targets for ones with different sizes, or vary the number.

                    - I think a lot of shooters will be able to out-run the first plate fall; they'd have to consciously slow down and wait for it to clear before engaging the second. Feature?

                    - A more traditional horizontally spread layout might attract more buyers, especially if you can program the rise of the targets.

Not a bad idea, to bad I can't hit anything over 8 feet anymore with the pistol.

                        Targets

I think it's a good idea.. but I would aim more for the local ranges that can use it for there local matches. Me as a consumer it's to big to take out. But there's people that don't mind .

Excellent comments. You covered a lot of my design decisions.

                          - The plates can be swapped out in less than 15 seconds. You pull a pin, remove one plate and drop in another. Then replace the pin.
                          - The decreasing size does help with both out of order hits and increasing focus. The people I have had use this for extended periods all begin to learn the level of concentration that is required as the plates get smaller. Everyone seems to go through the phase where they shoot too fast trying to record a good time. If there is one thing this device has taught me, it is that my target dictates my focus.
                          - If you barely graze a plate, it falls very slowly. A good solid hit drops the first plate in about 150 milliseconds. The last plates are much faster. I am not a very experienced shooter so I have never even gotten close to having to wait for the plates.

                          - Horizontal vs. Vertical layout was a huge decision. Horizontal is much more traditional and would probably sell better. But I built this as a trainer for myself. In the horizontal unit, you can see everything at once and your focus moves sideways from plate to plate. I mocked up a horizontal unit but after using it, I didn't feel that my accuracy had improved. In the vertical unit, you don't get to see the next target until the one in front of it falls (except Trick Shot Mode). I feel that as each target appears, my brain has to acquire it and make a decision about when I am sufficiently pointed to hit it. As the day wears on, the front target begins to look huge and I gain a lot of confidence. But that is just me.

                          Thanks again for the comments.

On Oak Tree Gun Club, there are separate bays, where you can install your targets and do all experiments, as well as film without interruption.
