    I Started With a Giggle...

...now I cannot stop rotflmao, etc.

Custom Ruger Redhawk 5" full underlug .44 Magnum, matte hard chrome, lanyard ring...

The base is a standard blued Ruger Redhawk revolver, factory 7 1/2" gun. It was fitted with a full underlug barrel from a S&W 629 cut at approximately 5", with the factory engraving removed and blended. A lanyard ring was added to the butt, and the whole gun was sent to Mahovsky's for a satin hard chrome finish after the basic action job was completed. The gun wears a factory rear sight, and HiViz red fiber optic front.

Comments appreciated. I should see the Redhawk mid-week next week.

I don't like the grips, but other than that, it looks pretty awesome. You should laser etch "629 Redhawk" on there lol.

Looks like some old gun from WWI. I can't think of the name.

Maybe some stag grips?! A gold bead front would also look nice.....

              Nothing better than hard chrome.

Who did the gunsmithing and barrel work?

Thats how it should look from Ruger. Very nice.

                  It looks so wrong...

but yet it looks so so right.

( Although, when I first saw the picture and the lanyard ring I thought it resembled a fancy airgun revolver, because I had a old revolver airgun and that's how the CO2 cylinder was kept in place, with a lanyard ring that unscrewed.)

It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.

All very cool minus the Lanyard ring.

I'm used to the variety of grips available for Smith "N" and "K" frames...not nearly as many choices for the Ruger.

                      Two minor clues...

                      It's not an Enfield.

Its name starts with the letter "W".

                      Think hard.

With stag, you're looking at $150 or so, bare minimum. But you're right...I don't think anything looks better on a back country gun. But...I don't have large hands (gloves are 9-1/2). I like a Pachmayr Decelerator on a K frame, and a Signature version (leaves the backstop bare) on an N. SAAMI max loads (Lil' Gun with 158gr bullets) on my 28 chrono around 1600, and that makes rubber preferable to something harder after a box or 2.

I like the gold bead idea. There is definitely no better finish (excluding reflectivity) imo than engineering hard chrome. I briefly googled the plater last night. They've got a great rep.

I emailed the seller yesterday asking info about the smith and if he signed the gun. No response yet. Whoever did it, this wasn't his first rodeo.

Replacing Ruger barrels with S&W turns out to be uncommon, but not especially rare. My vibe is that it's a niche for a gunsmith who wants to be a specialist.

I think it looks great. And the lanyard ring is a nice touch.

You need a catchy name for this mash up of Ruger and S&W. Kind of like when Colts and S&W's were put together and called SMOLTs.
