A question about Mil. surplus gun.

Can California buy a Mil. surplus gun ?
The reason I ask is because the Mil surplus pistol (with less than 10 rounds magazine) which is exact the same model in the Roster but does not have the SKU number.

    Thanks You.

There are so many things to consider.

First; and most important, is what your transferring dealer is willing to transfer.

The way the law is written only the importer or manufacture of the firearm can apply to have it listed on the roster.

Let's look at this FN Hi Power. The FN Hi Power is listed on the roster as being made by FN in Belgium. This Hi Power is made by FN in Belgium. It should be on the roster. Thing is these Hi Powers were not imported by FN. Some dealers will transfer them while others will not.

Your best bet is to contact the dealer you want to use and talk to them about the gun you want to buy and find out if they will transfer that gun to you.

Good luck and let us know how things work out for you.
      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The gun is CZ 83 (380ACP on the Roster), two of my near by LGS said NO, and you know that most of the time we just talk to a saleman and he just made a living likes us so why get into something .....(non-profitable).
The difference between the surplus and the NIB is about $200, I am not a low-baller , I just want to understand the regulation

        Thanks you ..67

Usually FFL's will charge a bit of a transfer fee as well, about $75. At that price point, I would possibly go new. Especially if the $200 includes taxes and everything.

If it is not on the roster, it must be on the ATF C&R list or you must be able to establish that it is 50 years old or older, or you must buy it in person from a private seller who is a CA resident, at a FFL.

The older Cz83 with the round trigger guard is NOT the same as the one on the roster. And IIRC they are not listed on the C&R list, and they started production less than 50 years ago.

So unless you find one in state close to you for PPT in person, you cannot import the older Cz83.

And the Cz83 was never mil surplus. It is a civilian version of the Cz Vz 82, which is rumored to be on the C&R list but is only chambered in 9mm Makarov.

There is a nice newer Cz83 for sale in the marketplace here for $350, but I think the seller is in Norcal.

Rumor? Russia and East German CZ82's are on the C&R list.

CZ83's indeed are not military issue...wrong caliber. Same pistols that accept a 10 round magazine in either caliber.

ATF Curios or Relics List (ATF Publications 5300.11 Revised 12-2007) lists the Czechoslovakian VZ82/CZ82 (all calibers & all serial numbers) as a C&R firearm.

                  AFAIK...
The "surplus" CZ-83 in .380ACP were European police issue trade-ins.

Russia and East German CZ-82's are not, nor have they ever been on the C&R list..... because they dont exist. You are thinking of the Makarov pistol which fires the 9x18 Makarov Cartridge, which is also what the Czechoslovakian CZ-82 also fires.
