    Help IDing an item

I was over at a friends' house and they pulled out something I have never seen before. There are 6 cylinders in a leather carrier that have R P 38spl marked on one end and have a recess on the other end. Can anyone help with an ID of what these are?

So the end with the recess would exit and there is shot behind it?
The cases are pretty long so I am not sure it would even chamber in a 38 special.

Is there a skinny barrel type thingy lying around anywhere?

            It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Another interesting product I have seen before. I did not see a tube, but will check with them.

Looks like the 38 round(case) is inserted into the brass tube?

It works together with a shoulder thing that goes up.

                              Looks home made.

Could be a Hollywood prop. Some kind of part of a costume.

It is rumored that Johnny Carson, back in the olden-days, had pencils on his desk that had erasers on both ends. So someone probably wanted the look of carrying cartridges without having actual cartridges. Just my guess.
