This isn't a decision that Colt made, it's the fault of the roster.
The spec's for every part in the firearm must remain identical in order for it to comply with the roster.
If a specific part is being made by manufacturer and say the owner dies and it results in that business closing, well the guns that relied on those parts, in Colt's case it was the full length recoil springs, that's a change in manufacturer and the end result is falling off the roster.
Don't blame Colt, blame your politicians for the roster!
Eventually all semi-autos pistols will fall off the roster.
