    Rant on...Colt

Okay, so this is more about this beautiful, overpriced, vain infested State that I'm proud of and the glorious handgun roster implemented for my protection but I feel like ignoring that topic...

Why does Colt have to be one of the many that are no longer readily available in California!!! Arrrrggggh.

I'm definitely late to the game but still. First handgun I shot 1943 Colt 1911 .45 I always knew I was going to buy a Colt, so I decided to purchase other models and try them out. Wrong! I found out about Colt not being on the roster two days before Jan1st and couldn't afford one at that time.

The 1911 feels like a glove in my hand, don't have to think about anything when I pull it out and shoot. Thumb safety, muscle memory by now, traditional sights, I get confused when I see different colored dots flying around like spacecrafts, heavy cold steel, um I work out thank you very much...good balance and forgiveness, handgrip safety, please...don't even notice it.
The tear down and cleaning is the only part that might get annoying but she takes care of me and I do the same.

I want to own other 1911s but once I get close in funds I think, oh just a couple more paychecks and I can get a nice Colt.

List of others I have shot just in case you were wondering... Sig 320, P6, Cz97b, Sp-01, p-01, hi point C9, 92fs, HK 40, SA 1911A1...so I don't have much experience.

I rant because I just got a great deal on a Mustang, the kind that unloads .380 not the 302cid junk. It felt great in my hands, better than a sig p238.

Pics to come when I pick her up.
    Sorry none now

I recently shot two new Colt's and while they look nice and bear the Colt name they just didn't shoot like I thought they should.
Maybe after a few rounds they will tighten up but I think I'll be looking elsewhere for future purchases of 1911's. Just too many options to pass on. IMO

Springfield Loaded is the best buy right now in CA for production 1911s

As I pulled these out I was reminded that the blueing finish is a deal maker for me... I'm not much of a stainless guy, unless it's a revolver. Colt just did things right. I like the sound of racking a slide compared to the HKs and Glocks. Can't wait to add a series 70 and the Mustang to the collection.

I agree about the fit BUT that's what I liked about Colt. I expected the rattling. Heck the first one I shot I thought was broken it rattled so much. I guess I need to try a semi custom or custom and see if the tighter tolerances win me over.

And I'm ready to make the plunge but then I see a Ruger 1911 become available and I think, okay that is a sweet looking gun. And I here the Ruger has less MIM parts compared to the Springfield. Or am I incorrect?

I sold my Springfield to get a Colt, both well made 1911's, just wanted a Colt. Be happy to have either but I'm happier with the Colt.

(Armscor) Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical is a close second.

Yeah, they can be had for around $479-499. Almost got one, but I ended up getting a G36 instead

Truth is, the Loaded isn't perfect either. Between the ILS and the stupid 2pc FLGR, its just more parts that you end up replacing anyway.

The RIA has a traditional GI plug/guide rod assembly and MSH, so thats stuff you don't have to worry about.

Issues with the RIA Tactical though typically end up being pretty rough fit and finish, with non-flush fitted beavertail/frame.

Just little things that the extra $400 kind of makes up for (if you care about that stuff.)

For a workhorse gun, and one that you might have to tweak a little to get running great, the RIA is great.

The markings are also a deal breaker for me. Not a big fan of front slide serrations, and large roll marks or lettering. I picked up the XSE but can't let it go at least until I get a gold match or govt 70 series. I looked at a les Baer recently but it had serrations on the top of the slide...no no no, not for me.

I'm thinking of picking up a Springfield but in 9mm. RIA is on the list but I'm just their markings are huge and all over the place.

I want the Springfield Loaded in 9mm.

Just not sure about dropping $1000 on it right now.

Might have to buy some rifles.
