It is designed to be a steel gun. It can't hurt to stick with the intended material, nless you have a specific reason to lose some weight. You'll end up with another anyway.

I've had my 9mm Tactical Pro II that comes with an aluminum frame for over two years. In that time it's well over 2K rounds. There is no evidence of any cracks in the frame.

I concur with those who have commented on the benefit of periodically replacing the guide rod spring. Kimber recommends replacement at 800 rds for my firearm. Since my .45 ACP Custom II TLE continues to perform reliably with the original guide rod spring after several thousand rounds, I went looking for a way to extend the period way past 800 rds for my Tactical Pro. The solution was a Wilson Combat Flat Wire Kit (http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Flat-Wir...oductinfo/784/). Easy to install and works flawlessly.
