I'm thinking of picking one of these up tomorrow to have a spare with my xd9. Reviews seem pretty good but I think I'll definitely have to upgrade the trigger and springs.

People talk about the mushy gritty trigger. Mine out of the box always felt fine.

It does have a long heavy trigger pull. If you have any bad trigger habits, this long heavy trigger pull will amplify the error.

It also does not have a great reset location, as the trigger has to be almost fully extended.

Once you get good at shooting this, you will be great a shooting anything with a standard 4-5 lb trigger pull.

            A buddy has one.
            Works well, shoots straight.
We installed the Apex spring kit and made sure the action parts were smooth with no burrs.
This took less than 30 minutes and greatly improved the trigger.

Don't install steel guide rods in these pistols. The aftermarket recoil springs are longer than stock, and the spring stacks not allowing the slide to reach the slide stop in the frame. Instead, all the recoil energy is transferred to thin plastic tabs that protect the take down lever from the guide rod making contact with it. These tabs will eventually snap off, and take down lever will malfunction(the slide will fall off the frame when trigger is pulled).

Here are a couple of pics to show what I'm talking about.

Here is the slide stop section of the frame. The U section is what stops the slide. However with the aftermarket spring being too long, the spring will stack and become a solid tube, the slide will not travel back far enough to reach the U section of the frame.

Here is a pic of the tabs I'm talking about. Incorrect spring size will cause the recoil energy to be transferred to these tabs via the guide rod and they will snap off.

Galloway precision is the manufacturer that makes these aftermarket steel guide rods for these pistols. They have been working on this issue. I believe they recently released new guide rods with correct size spring. If you have the old version, contact them and they will replace them for free.

Also, here is a thread on this whole issue. Lots of valuable info there.
I've run into another issue with my SD40VE. I've got around 1,600 rounds through it, and after my most recent trip to the range this week, the takedown lever stays depressed after putting the slide on. When I pull the trigger (dry-firing of course) the slide comes right off. If the slide is...

I had one with an Apex Trigger. It was very reliable, accurate, and I liked it. I only sold it so I could raise funds to buy more ammo. I would recommend it highly.

Almost bought one today, bought an XD9 instead. It's a fine gun. I think I'll get one very soon. I heard it's very reliable.

Never shot the 9, however the 40cal version with the long heavy trigger pull... All I can say is I have a hard time making 10" groups at 5 yards with it. I just can't shoot them. My buddy has the 40. He wanted to save money instead of getting the glock. Regrets it to this day... Now an owner of a glock 17. A lot of people however have better luck with them. To each their own!
