    "offhand"

First, I did try the search function but didn't find what I'm looking for.

I have a very basic question: What does "offhand" mean?

Like for example somebody talking about their grouping says "shot at 10 yards offhand".

Using just your hands and not a bench or platform to shoot from.

But I like response in post #2 better.

This^^. Shooting off hand as apposed to shooting from a bench rest or support of some kind. Shooting "standing" would mean the same thing as "off hand".

I believe that REDdawn6 is thinking of Strong hand (main hand) vs Weak hand (off hand). For clarity if you are a left handed shooter your strong hand is your left hand and your weak hand is you right.

Edit: The replys that came in while i was typing the above pretty much covered it. I am slow.

                    That's weak-hand.

Off hand is shooting from an unrested position.

                        So...

                        shooting off-hand = shooting unsupported ??

Yep, can be sidearm or rifle, means the same thing. Standing, non-supported other than the (human) arms

You could check Snoopy47's avatar, or a pic of Brian Zins (pic stolen from ar15.com).

Or the definition from the NRA rulebook:

That's why the NRA rulebook for PPC uses "standing without support" instead of "offhand", cuz in that game you can use both hands.

Offhand, the word the generally precedes wager.
