h&K usp 40

Still have my USP40 from 1994, per German date code. It is a great and accurate shooter. I would never sell it. I do have a gripe that my Surefire X300s don't fit the rail unless I get a separate adapter but wouldn't matter if you're just using it for a range gun. DA trigger pull wouldn't matter much at the range either as I'm guessing you'll mostly shoot SA anyways. Trigger is rough in the beginning but the trigger really lightens up and smooths out after breaking it in. Eats everything I feed it. The grip is like gripping a block, so not sure if you have held one yet. I say do that first and if you like it, get it. I have small hands but I adjust my grips slightly to accommodate different pistols.

I have one as well as a USP .45. The 40 has a slightly shorter grip which annoys me. It feels a little funny when cycling the last few rounds out of the mag. Hard to describe but it is distracting and most people don't like the feeling. Stock HK mag springs seem to need replacing sooner which is part of the issue.

It is accurate, which one would expect. It is softer shooting to me than my Glock 23, which makes sense due to size and weight.

It also costs a lot more than a Glock and it is harder to detail strip.

Striker fire seems to be winning the day and most Glocks are reliable out of the box but some of us like the DA option on the USP as well as the safety.

It really depends on use. If it is primarily a service gun for self defense, then an HK makes sense. If you want to really compete with one the mods you will make will cost more than to a Glock. But you can mod the trigger if it is a target gun only.

If mostly for target use, then another product may make more sense. For a reasonable cost gun, and heavy range use the Glock 34 is hard to beat.

the USP iS awesome and will last forever. but I would ( did) get a 9mm

I loved my USP 40 Compact. I traded it for the same in 9mm to consolidate calibers. I installed the larger USP .45 mag release on both.

USP 40 Compact

I have a USP 40 Compact and it is a great gun. I carried it as a Parole Agent for the State. After I retired I stopped shooting it, and even briefly put it up for sale here on the market because I had been buying other guns and my USPc had just been sitting in the safe. But after putting it on the market I took it out to shoot it again and realized why I had carried this weapon on duty. It is a tack driver for sure. The double action pull is long and heavy but the single action pull is sweet. I withdrew it from the for sale thread and just ordered a High Noon Holster for it so I can put it on my CCW carry list.

I have one and honestly, it rarely leaves the safe. It's not a bad gun, but on top of what everyone else says, it feels clumsy to me.

They take any bite you think .40 has, and make it feel almost as soft as a 9mm

I own 2 HK vP9's. Great pistol IMO. I want the HK VP .40 just waiting to see one in the marketplace.

my usp40 is very accurate, it fits my hand very well and is easy for me to shoot. just use good ammo and your GTG.

My .40s&w USP (full size - no barbie gun)
Is the single most accurate .40s&w I have ever shot... period.
With good ammunition 2-4 in groups at 25yds..(not from a rest) are pretty simple tasks...
The gun is simply amazing.
I did however take that stupid slide stop which used to be about the size of Lake Superior and shave it down even with the lever portion... so that I can carry it without getting a substantial divit in my hip...

I have an "LEM" gun that somehow had to have the trigger spring replaced with one a bit lighter than was in the thing.. trigger pull weight is about 5.5 lbs last I checked..

I think they are simply amazingly great guns that were way overpriced when new .. so I bought mine used...

broke the sights recently - I'm hard on gear - so the slide is off to Truglo to get 'em fixed....

bought it .. along with other guns from these guys... got a great deal too ...

I love my USPc in .40, it is indeed a tack driver. Honestly, I shoot it better than my P226.

Great gun, like people said, the double action pull is not great by any means, but the single action is fantastic, and the 'high bore axis' is not an issue at all.

I have 2 and they are my favorite to shoot of any I own. Both are DA/SA and I like them. Yes they are plenty accurate. I have shot several other brands, models, and calibers, and I shoot the USP 40 and the USP 45 the best. as in I hit the 10 ring the most and shoot the tightest patterns
say what you like about what you like, this feature or that, but for me the bottom line is what do you actually shoot the best, and for me that is a H&K USP 40 (or 45) full size.

I have a USP .45 ACP version so it may be a bit different.
Great pistol. For me it's been very reliable. No malfunctions.
It does have a large grip being that it is full size.
If you can, try it out first to make sure the erogs suit you.

HK USP

like most of us will agree. if you dont have one just gives you reason to buy another gun. have the usp 40 and 45 yes big guns but shoots well and very reliable.
