I've shot both. I far prefer the G34. The 9mm and longer slide just creates a recoil impulse that is extremely pleasant relative to the G21.

Glock 34 or 21

The G34 has a great balance due to longer slide therefore recoil is pleasant (due to your strength); it feels like a .22lr on steroids.
The G21SF in particular is bigger to hold the .45ACP caliber and has a nice push recoil. The SF model makes it feel less like a brick due to the shorter distance between the trigger and beaver tail.
Both are great, but I suggest getting the G21SF because the .45 is America's caliber. Best of luck.sigpicComment

Between the G34 and G21SF, the G34 "shoots better". It was designed as a range competition model, the G21 is a duty model.
Also consider a G30SF - it's a hoot to shoot. WAY more accurate than it ought to be, like the G26. Both leave me grinning like a goofy kid every time I shoot them.
I also have a G34, a G17L, a G19, a G21, a G21SF, a G36, and a G41. The G41 is my only Gen4.
The G34 is boring - mild recoil, reliable to a fault, well balanced, and easy to shoot well. It's a serious range weapon, even in stock format. It's ~$1/magazine cheaper than the .45acp guns to shoot.
The Glock .45acp models are surprisingly pleasant to shoot. The fat grip and polymer frame diminish felt recoil as much or more than a 1911's weight does. Even the G30 and G36 are fun to shoot. The G41 is outstanding, and off-roster, and costs more.
Rent 'em all and shoot 'em - one will "speak to you".Comment

I have the 34 and have shot the 21...
of course there is no right answer, merely preference
I prefer the 34
I enjoy shooting 9mm more than .45. I am more accurate with it, faster with it and its much cheaper to shoot and practice with.
I prefer the 34 because of looks, feel, caliber, lighter trigger, extended mag release and extended slide stop..
I guess it depends on your intended use thoughComment

I own both. Love both. Can't go wrong. For most applications though I think the G34 fits the bill. It'll be more fun at the range due to the balance, lack of recoil, and ammo costs. For HD, both are great. For carry, both are too big.
For SHTF, I prefer 9mm for the higher capacity and faster follow up shots. But again, both guns are awesome.iTrader: 52 transactions, 100% positive.Comment

Recently became a Glock owner when I picked up a G34. I absolutely love the gun. It is a dream to shoot.Comment

Good advice here. I like both pistols, but .45 ACP is too expensive to shoot regularly out of anything but a 1911.Originally posted by HopetonBrownThe Glock 21 takes high octane, whereas the Glock 34 takes regular unleaded. Cheaper gas means it costs less to drive. Why spend more money on gas if you don't need to?
The Glock 34 is about the same size as a 1911, so it's not super-huge or anything.Comment

Something about the way the 21 recoil doesn't sit well with me so I sold mine but I didn't find it unpleasant and actually thought it was more manageable/softer shooting than my 1911's.
How do you figure ammo is twice as much? 1000 rounds of 9mm $209 and .45 is $299.Comment

If you reload it's only about a $20-25 difference.Something about the way the 21 recoil doesn't sit well with me so I sold mine but I didn't find it unpleasant and actually thought it was more manageable/softer shooting than my 1911's.

I own both, but prefer G34. And I don't always shoot .45acp, but when I do, I prefer Glock 21.Comment

I own both as well as the G41, G20, & G35. Each is unique and out of all of them I dislike the G41 the most. The 20/21 both are the larger standard grip and are super smooth and a pleasure to shoot. The G41 recoils differently and isn't as accurate for for me yet. I do like the texture and extended beavertail adapter. The 34 & 35 are great guns with the only the amount of recoil being sharper on the G35. The G34 wasn't without issues though, there were feeding issues until I shot roughly 500 hand loads that were on the very stout side. I recommend you do like you say and rent both and see how you like the feel of each. The G21 will definitely make the G22 you have feel small.Comment

For self defense, I'd get the G21SF. For competition and the range, I'd get the G34.Originally posted by G. Michael HopfHard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.Comment
