    Glock 34 or 21

I searched the forum and did not see the info I was looking for. I am tossing up the idea of buying a Glock 34 or Glock 21. I am not a fan of .40 cal so please do not suggest a 22. With that said, do they "shoot" similarly or does one "shoot" better? I understand the frames are a little different and the slide lengths are different as well. Some guns just shoot better than others, and I want to know if anyone has experience between the two side by side. I know recoil is different and I may be comparing apples and oranges, but I only have experience with my G19 and railed 1911. I am looking into these two only due to our wonderful CA roster, lack of LCI and Mag disconnect. I plan on heading to my local range to rent these two within the next few weeks.

The two pistols have different purposes. Besides the caliber difference, the Model 21 is mainly a defensive pistol & the Model 34 is a target/competition pistol with a lighter trigger, larger magazine release button, longer barrel & adjustable sights. In my experience (I have both), the Model 34 is more accurate at longer ranges.

oh well, for my 2c worth: i have shot the 34 in competition, it has that nice light 3.5# connector and a longer barrel. Funny though the best Glock shooter i know uses his service 17 or 19 and is better than anyone.
So, I have a 21 and bought the 3.5# connector at the glockshop in SD. it shoots better now. But it is .45acp and is larger than a 19. if i were to get another G it would be either what you have or a 26.
like i said my 2c worth.
      stay safe,

I have shot a lot with both G21 and G34. Glock 34 if you are looking for a range gun. Not that you can not use it for home defense as well.
G21 is not a very pleasant gun to shoot all day (unlike your 1911) and it will cost you considerably more (twice as much) in ammo.

Win231 - Understood the two are different. I guess a similar comparison would be a 17 vs 21.

Maxit - thanks for your input

I own both - both are in my rotation & serve as night stand guns. I went with Glock a few years ago for the simplicity and reliability. Both have been equally fun to shoot & if you put the time in to learn them, can be equally accurate. Highly recommend them!

g21 is the stardard sized glock in 45 cal.

g34 is the competition sized glock in 9mm.

if you are going to compare the two calibers, compare the g34 with the g41.

              i can buy a g34 for around $600 otd, for a g41, i would be looking at over $1k.

              get the g34.

Apple's and oranges, your talking about 2 different calibers, and lengths.

                9 is 9

                45 is 45

                  You already have a G19.

Get a Glock 21SF (Gen 3) or if you can find one, a Gen 4.

.45 is soft shooting and really a good SHTF, Range toy, Defensive caliber, especially in a polymer Glock.

The G34 is another 9 (you have a 9 already) don't need a bigger 9 that's too big to conceal carry. Get a G26 for that.

The Glock 21 is very accurate. It's fine out of the box. Maybe upgrade the sights
Later. I installed SpeedSites on my G 21. For my eyes they are awesome

Prefer shooting my G34 to my friend's G21, as I'm more accurate with it and I like the recoil characteristics.

I use it for range and bedside duty....

I like glocks in 9mm. If I'm going to buy a .45, I'll pony up for a 1911. They feel great, function well, and with the CA magazine capacity at 10, you're not handicapped in ammo. They feel so great to boot.

comparing trucks to cars really. two different tools for two different jobs.

g34 is my all time favorite though.
