    CZ SP-01 or P-01

    Hey everybody,

Thinking about picking up my first CZ and trying to decide which to go with as my first. The only CZ I've shot was a 75b as a rental and liked how it handled. If anyone could share their thoughts on either one? Also, as for availability, how's it been in the Bay Area lately for either one of these pistols?

What are you going to use it for? Do you like SA or DA/SA with decocker?

If you are going to use it at the range and nothing else, there is not a huge reason to get the P01 as it is just a compact version of the SP01. Unless you just like compact size pistols more.

P01 is only avail in DA/SA with decocker. You could probably convert it with parts from a full size if you really wanted. I'm not sure on that as I don't know of anyone that has done that before.

If I did not carry my P01 daily, I'd have picked up an SP01 as I've put some time in on a decently modified P9 and like the length of the grip better for my big hands.

Availability is fairly scarce. I had to order my P-01 online and have it shipped to my LGS.

You question is a 'full size' versus 'compact.'

The SP01 will be more like your 75B in terms of size, but will be heavier. The SP01 is also all steel.

The P01 is more like a glock 19 in terms of size and has an alloy frame (lighter).

I myself like 'compact' guns - although the P01 is the definition of "compact it ain't" (reference nutnfancy).

I pick my P01 up from jail this Thursday. My LGS had one to rent and after I tried it, I was sold.

Tough decision..If I had to pick between my SP-01 Tactical or P-01, I'd probably pick the P-01. The P-01 can do everything what the SP-01 does, but it in a smaller package.

I prefer my czs to be all steel. That said I don't think I'll be able to resist the p01 much longer. I like my handguns big and heavy though.

I have both but i like P-01 more because i have smaller hands and is lighter. If you have smaller hands get P-01. If you have big hands, get the big brother SP-01. I recommend checking out the CZ 75B SA as well. If had chance to go back in time i would have purchased CZ 75B SA instead of SP-01. Personal preference in trigger.

Don't forget the PCR as well; alloy frame with decocker, but without the light rail.

The P-01 really should be compared against the PCR [alloy] and CZ75 Compact [all steel]

CZ's are harder to come by

You have to be patient and strike while the iron is hot.

As covered before, the SP is full sized for range or target. The P is an alloy compact. Two different functions. Have an idea of what you expect from this gun.

                    SP01

I have never fired a P01 since I'm brand new as a CZ owner. But the SP01 I bought is a very sweet pistol and it shot superbly right out of the box. I love it so much that I already bought a CZ 97B even though I can't even dros it yet due to the 1 in 30 days law. Heck I might get the P01 also since they have one in stock at one of my local gun stores. So I'll be the first to say it. Get both!

For a range gun and home defense gun, I would always tell someone to buy a SP-01. Comes with night sights and much softer to shoot vs the P01 with crappy sights and snappier recoil. Only reason for P-01 is if you plan on carrying and want one gun that can do it all.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I'll probably end up hunting an SP-01.

To follow up what I'll be using it for, mainly range shooting, and maybe HD but I have a Glock 19 for that. No CCW as I'm in San Francisco so that's that.

Good luck finding an sp01. I just checked coyote point armory they don't have any. Call peninsula guns and tactical or city arms maybe they can order one for you. The market place prices here on the sp01 is retarded right now.

That's what I'm going for next. I started with a CZ 75B SA and was impressed enough to need another CZ but at the other end of the size/weight spectrum.
