    A Smith TRR8 is a great wheel.

8 shots. With moon clips, very speedy reloading, if 8 rounds wnt don't it.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Sounds like it's a keeper

Another vote for the match champion...

The 686 is actually on roster if it has an "A" stamped on it. I have yet to see a 686 with the "A" stamp...
I just picked up a kRuger Match Champion. I can't be happier with it. It is so smooth and nice. I hate wood grips but these were super nice. I still put the rubber ones on it, which came with the revolver. The fiber optic front sight with the adjustable rear sight is nice. The tapered cylinder is nice too. I have a 686 also, but the Ruger is a smoother double action trigger pull.

Get a Ruger Match Champion. You'll love it.

Ruger GP100 or SP101 distributor exclusives won't cost you 3-4k.

Look into the single action exemption rule if the revolver you want is not on the roster. I got a 3" 686 using that and plan to use it on more. The tank of 357 revolvers would be the Ruger GP100. The one with the nicest trigger from the factory would be the Smith & Wesson. You cant go wrong with either one.

In my opinion my best revolver ever made
I just got one today. I love the Highway Patrolman. I love the large N frame. I found this at a small boutique gun shop the resells estate sale stuff. I picked it up for under $500 before DROS & tax. Shoots like a beauty. Very accurate. I got one with a 6" barrel. It had a custom carved grip, trigger job, and a jeweled trigger and hammer. I will post pics later. I feel so lucky to find it. This one does have holster wear....

                    Ca legal revolver suggestions

If you have the coin the Competitor is a very nice Smith. I've got an older S&W 586 6" a Ruger Match Champion. The DAO trigger pull on the competitor is amazing. I just picked it up Sunday. I've casted some 180gr RNFP for it and just got a Lee mould for 105gr SWC for 38sp. I've shot some 357mags thru it and the barrel weights work very well to control muzzle rise. I'll be looking to add a set of wood grips and possibly a micro red dot on the rail.

I had my trigger on the GP100 tuned up, and now it is incredible.

Second Amendment Sports in Bakersfield has a pile of brand spanking new S&W 686s in the case.

Guys, it's weird. Maybe this is completely trivial to most, but aesthetically speaking alone, I'm driven to the gp100 or the 686. When I go back to my philosophy on firearms and technology in general, I tend to buy things with 3 criteria: simple, stupid, and overbuilt. I don't want to think about it to operate it, I don't want to fumble with it aesthetically speaking I like a basic and pure appearance, and I want it to be able to go through the ringer and to hell in back. After those are answered as far as options, it then goes on to trigger, ergonomics and sights.

Looks like if I'm going 686, I'd need a vintage one as they have some sort of locking mechanism on the cylinder these days... That's not simple stupid, and likely one more thing that could fail and require maintenance.

There's not much short of a roaring encore for the gp100

I think I'll go with the gp100 in the meanest 6" configuration. It will also be a little easier on the bank.

                            Seems legit!

You can remove the lock on a Smith but the Ruger is a fine choice also

I couldn't sleep at night if I did that. If I got a 686, it would stay in the configuration it was born with and I'd just have to learn to love it. I'm weird like that.
