    Anyone else doing this?

When I first got into firearms and SD/HD I picked the best I can afford for SD/HD. $1000+ handgun for nightstand pistol and $1000+ semi auto rifle for backup. But the more I read in this forum and the more I understand about the SD/HD laws, the more I am leaning toward more economical, yet reliable (emphasis on reliable), firearms. Now my first line of defense is a $300-$400 pistol and a $300 shotgun.

I know some people will ask the question, "Is your life worth $xxxxx?" But some of the less expensive firearms had proven to be just as reliable as their more expensive counterparts.

My last 3 sales totalled $3930....two collectible revolvers and a 1911.
My last 3 buys totalled $2200....shotgun, Glock, CZ

Still have some collectibles, but now enjoy shooting solid, reliable guns over safe queens.

Put your life behind what you can shoot the best and be done with it.

I dont have any expensive 1911s, but all my guns are reliable with solid proven records. I carry Glock, Sig p320, and HK VP9.. all under $600 and they work good as over $2k 1911s.

The reason people advocate using cheap pistols is because in some jurisdictions you might not even get your gun back and they don't wanna be out $1000 or worse yet an sse they can't replace. Then there's the fact a lot of the cheap polymer pistols are the easiest to operate under stress so it just makes sense. I like to have my shooters nearby and the nice stuff locked away.

That said my cheap stuff runs just as good as the others. Just not as refined.

Hi-Points are cheap and reliable if that's what you're after.

Whatever has proven to be reliable in your hands is good enough.

I have a sig sp2022 I would trust in a pinch. Got the gun for 400 and shoot pretty well with it.

My first HD gun was G17 and it still is, but my range guns are getting more expensive (S&W 66, 17, etc).

The fact that it might get locked up in an evidence locker shouldn't be a factor... your level of trust in the the effectiveness and reliability of the weapon and your level of skill with it should be the only factors.

If you shoot someone in self defense at your home, your whole collection is probably heading to the same evidence locker anyways.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

No not really. I've had the benefit of being raised around firearms and shooting all types through out the years. I had years of experience with firearms before I ever owned any. First purchase was at 16 years old and was my Mosin Nagant 1944 m44 for 79$. Had to be put in my grandmothers name because I wasn't old enough.(yes I know)

Take what you read in this forum with a grain of salt. Most of it is parroting and non sense bravado and myths, same type of stuff you'll hear in a gun shop.(.45acp will knock you off your feet and kill you in one shot. 1911's are for men, plastic is for toys, etc) Don't just rely on this forum for information. Use multiple sources and look things up for your self.

Right there with you, The 17 is a EDC while my CZ and soon to be HK will be fun guns. I do want to get a 19 as well for a back up to the 17 but it's a never ending cycle haha

That's always been a fear of mine...I only used the XYZ for an idiot intruder who let Newsom in my home to take the rest? SMH...Also would they confiscate my girls firearms as well since we share our safe together? Or is that a grey area scenario sort of question.

This, if you ever get into this situation the last thing on your mind is losing the gun. You're going to court and praying you're not going to prison.
