How Could I Remove These Scratches?

Scratched up my gun pretty badly. Sad thing is that I don't even know how I did it. I did my research online on how to remove scratches on SS slides, but couldn't find a solution that matches my problem. So I hope to gain some insight from my fellow Calgunners.

And yes I know scratches add character to a gun, but it would be nice if I have the option to remove those scratches.

Scotch Brite pads work on light scratches but those look pretty deep.

1) you could leave it as is.
2) sand/polish it out, however you'll remove the brushed look and will have to do the whole slide/gun if you want it consistent looking. Recommend high caution before going down this route.
3) buy new slide.
4) get is professionally 'rebrushed'.

Given the time or money involved in removing it, I'd suggest leaving it but that's a personal choice.

Try some of the stainless polishing pads for mag wheels? You can probably reduce them a bit but it may end up looking worse if you don't get the finish blended properly. I would probably leave it as is.

Gray scotch Brite pad, go in the same direction. Front to back not up and down, do not use polish it will make it shiny. Napa auto parts sells the pads

I used emery cloth and oil plus the tutorial below. I was able to repair the brushed metal finish on a pretty deep idiot scratch on a brushed metal 1911. Plus take all the micro scratches out of my competition gun with brushed finish. I just did it this past weekend. Hope this helps.

This will work nicely. Use masking tape to cover the area around the flat of the slide. This will establish straight lines around the flat that you are brushing with the pad. Remember going in one direction only.

I have had great success using grey scotch brite pads on my brushed stainless 1911's as well. Easy, cheap with very good cosmetic improvement for minimal investment in both time and money.
As stated above already go only one direction along the grain of the metal, front to back (or back to front but always one direction strokes. Start with movement before applying pressure, then let off pressure and lift the pad while still moving as this will lessen/eliminate start and stop scratch marks made by the scotch brite pads.
Use your discretion as to how much you do this, very deep scratches cannot be removed with this method but they will appear to less deep. The superficial scratches and marks can be taken out completely though.
