LCR 38 vs BG 38

I've played with the LCR's and really liked the trigger and how it feels.

How does the BG 38 compair?

I own a 642 and an LCR in 38spl (both with CT laser grips) and head and shoulders prefer the feel, sights, and trigger of the LCR. I do not own the Bodyguard because I do not like the ambidextrous cylinder release (I'm right handed) or the design of the laser's switch, but it is a lot bang for the buck. I'm absolutely sold on lasers on defensive handguns, especially on challenging to shoot well under stress snubbies, but I prefer the more instinctive design of a Crimson Trace laser-grip to the must stop to think about it design of the BG's laser. This is one of those personal taste things and you'll really need to compare them for yourself.

The weights are very similar, but I give the edge to the LCR. The weight of the trigger pull is more consistent and the reset is slightly better.

Also, if you are in the market for a wheel gun, I highly recommend the 9mm LCR. I just got mine and I'm pretty sure I'll never go back to a .38. Just doing some ballistics research on a LCR, a .38 +p 125gr on average doesn't break 900 FPS! Out of a LCR, 9mm 124gr +p averages 1117FPS. The only drawback is, when you use 9mm without a moon clip, you really need to poke them out to reload and I'm getting used to carrying a moonclip in my pocket.

Not to thread jack, but anyone have a good suggestion on how to carry moonclips?

I don't disagree with you, but loaded with the right round the 4oz lighter 38spl LCR can be very effective. The one and only round that I keep in snub-nosed .38s is Speer's hard to find 135gr +P Gold Dot For Short Barrels (P/N: 23921 or 53921). It's a round designed and optimised for snubbies. If I carried the 9mm LCR I'd carry 124gr HSTs like those in my Shield.

To answer your question, one reason that didn't buy the 9mm instead of the .38 is that I haven't found a moon clip pouch that I really like, although Del Fatti advertises an expensive moon-clip belt pouch and an anti-twist pocket carry solution. FWIW, I keep my 38spl reloads in 5 Star J2 speedloaders.

The moon clips or the lack thereof is a big reason I don't want a 9mm revolver.

Question for you. Do you keep the 5 Stars in your pocket or some other holder?

I was thinking about using speed strips. Any thoughts on those with the LCR?

I like a 5 Star in a coat pocket and in the console of a car. I'm sure that with lots of practice that speed strips work well but I'm not that coordinated and by the time I complete a reload with one the fight will be over. I'm not likely to get into a massive battle that requires more than 10rds.

Yeah, I figured that I would need to do a lot of training with the speed strips.

When I carry a 5 shot there are 2 speed strips in the right rear pocket. It is easy to reload 2 rounds at a time. I like the Speer 135 +P 38 round even in my 640-1.
