    Speed loader legality question

    Hi,

I'm moving to CA from TX in a few months. So. Gonna have to put some stuff in storage, right?

Anyway, I've read that "speed loaders" are illegal in CA. When I think of speed loaders, I'm thinking of a silly piece of plastic that makes loading magazines (so much) easier, like this:

Is THAT what they are talking about being illegal? Or is it just those disc things you can use with revolvers to reload quickly?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

For me they just help get that last round in, especially for single stack pistols. They don't really help with speed.

Any mags you have that holds more than 10 rounds will be illegal in CA.
Any semi-auto pistol you have that accepts a magazine other than the pistol grip is illegal unless it's retrofitted with a bullet button making it a fixed 10 or less round mag.
Any pistol with a threaded barrel is considered an AW unless it's a single shot or equipped with bullet button.

Seriously, where did you "hear" that speed loaders are illegal?

They are perfectly legal in California.

Yeah and your photo is what I've always considered a mag loader not a speed loader. Kind of curious as to where you heard speed loader's were illegal, and what the reasoning for that is? Because it's still faster to load a magazine than it is to dump a revolver and use a speed loader. Well for most of us human's that is, there is this one guy who could probably hold his own in a head to head contest with an autoloader shooter.

Only "assault" speed loaders are illegal in California. Just kidding.

Not much left to say* - but rastoboy, if you could track down where you may have heard a speed loader might be illegal, that might be addressable to get a correction in.

                            * HINT - take it.

                              Thanks, y'all!

I saw it in a number of places. Like this one:

Search in page for "speed" and you'll see it.

I was unable to find it in the CA legal code as such.
