This thread confirmed my hypothesis. I bought a 10mm Glock. I will pass on 1911's

assuming your telling the truth those 2 1911's, those 2 simply weren't up to proper spec. the 1911 design works, as do practically all popular gun designs if their manufactured to proper spec. modern designs having less moving parts make attention to detail during production less critical, as opposed to a 1911.

I have a Springfield 1911 45acp that I carried as a duty gun. One day at range qualifications, it was nothing but FTF after FTF. Range master getting miffed at me and the gun. Finally finished it, and got it inside and realized I hadn't cleaned and lubed it for a while. While it wasn't "dirty" per se, it was dry. Taught me a lesson. I kept it lubed after than, and never again had the problem.
1911s were designed to run on grease, not oil. Though, with a lot of the newer guns, that are built tighter, there is often a recommendation to use "oil". I still prefer grease. Grease will "migrate" less, especially when vertically in a holster.

Most 1911 "feed" or "ejection" issues are actually shooter issues provided you are using standard ammo and haven't tried making your 1911 a race gun.

The 1911 design was built around the 4"-5" barrel.
Shorter barrel changes the dynamics of the recoil spring and the geometry.

1911 is not a "put gas in it and drive" gun like a Glock.
They do need to be cared for.
Most issues are related to stovepiping or other extraction problems, generally related to a weak recoil spring (notable for Kimber since they start with a 16lb spring), or misfeed/double-feed issues, which are generally the result of magazine issues.
I've got some CM "Shooting Star" mags that were cheap and run like it.
Same for some generics from CDD.
I've never had a problem with Wilson.
I just ordered some CM Power Mags for my new Kimber.

OP Here. My curiosity got the best of me, I bit the bullet and purchased a Dan Wesson Classic Bobtail off a very nice Calgunner. Looking forward to getting out and breaking it in.

1911s would be a whole heck of a lot more reliable if people stopped "upgading" parts because non-OEM *must* be better.

With handguns, which is a tool, it is all about the operator. Some people have limitations or a lack of handgun aptitude and should stick with fishing.
